Removing Kiwi Polish

Do not wash your firearn with soap and water unless you want rusty springs and whatever else isn't made of stainless steel to rust. And do not use acetone or paint thinner, or any other agressive cleaner suggested. Horrible suggestions.

The best thing I've found for removing any residue, including kiwi polish after bedding is automotive CRC Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner. Spray it on a rag or paper towel and wipe. Guaranteed to come off instantly. Won't harm any finishes of any kind. Dries very fast and leaves no residue behind whatsoever. Absolutely the best cleaner for firearms hands down. I use it on everything. Triggers, bolts, etc...

I use Kiwi show polish as a release agent on every bedding job I do because it is excellent. And I use MAF sensor cleaner to remove it every time. Nothing works better at removing Kiwi.

I will certainly give this one a try. I have also had great luck with the Kiwi polish, and would like to stick with it.

Thank you.

You're welcome. Kiwi shoe polish is an excellent release agent.

If you want to test the cleaner, just apply kiwi to any spot on your barrel, polish it to thin layer with a shine, then use the MAF sensor cleaner to remove it. I usually spray it on a blue shop towel and wipe it off because the cleaner wont evaporate nearly as fast when soaked in a towel. You can spray it directly on the metal too, but it evaporates quickly and you have to be fast to wipe the shoe polish off. You won't be disappointed with how easily it is removed ;)

Soap and water was routinely used to scrub out barrels back when corrosive primers were used. We use soap and boiling hot water to scrub out grease from barrels of military relics and something like WD40 to absorb any water left after evaporation from the hot surfaces. Pam might contain olive oil, like food but soap and hot water will remove it (cheap and benign). We are talking about exposed smooth surfaces not the inner workings of a firearm having precisely fitted moving parts and springs.

Some solvents like acetone are suspect to cause bad things. Acetone is suspected of having effects on blood cell production/bone marrow with possible consequences of leukemia. This may or may not be true but since other things are available we choose not to use acetone.

The other stuff is not so good for you also. MAF (mass air flow sensor cleaner) can cause serious eye damage (level 2) and even narcotic effects (level 3). MEK can be absorbed through skin, cause organ damage, and eye damage. Both items are flammable and reactive with other chemicals to the point of being explosive.

We would prefer to have a minor amount of glop on our guns having very small surfaces rather than to suffer the consequences of exposure to toxic chemicals. At least consider reading MSDS and getting safety gear before messing around with this stuff.

what about the chemtrail spray that you breathe in every day, if you walk outside you are inhaling it, contrails do not hang in the air all day but chemtrails do, but make sure you listen to MSM they always tell the truth. have a nice day

Reluctant to reply,oh well....

Wax and grease remover didn't get that name because of ? PPG DX330

And from the,definitely more than you asked for perspective look up;

"Basics of Basics",surface cleaners by Brian Martin. This is general knowledge,I know there's a cpl guys on here that this "may" help get to the next level, enjoy.ITS

I always used Pam cooking spray for a release agent. Soap and water . . . .

When I said soap and water, for me to clean up, just a wet paper towel with a little Dawn dish washing detergent takes care of it all. Let dry and then wipe down with some of "Ed's Red" or your favorite protector/lubricant.

I've never had an issue.

Do you have one of the citrus cleaners on hand? Goof Off or Goo Gone? Those should do the trick.

That may work also! I think I am going to Cerakote a tomato stake barrel next time I do another project, wax it down, and try several different cleaners. I will post the results when done, and hopefully be able to help a few other people out in the future...

DO NOT DRINK DENATURED ALCOHOL! Let’s be crystal clear about that!!)-- it will give you GI distress and burps.

The denaturer will do all kinds of things. At one time gasoline was a denaturer.

While you’re there check into MEK - methyl ethyl ketone - or ‘cancer in a can’ by another name. Not that I recommend it’s use for shoe polish removal....

If mineral spirits won’t work, try denatured alcohol. Without the methanol that gets added (the ‘denatured’ part) many of us drink small amounts of ethanol with various dilutants & flavorings.

(DO NOT DRINK DENATURED ALCOHOL! Let’s be crystal clear about that!!)

Save the Denatured Alcohol for cleaning. Hai Karate or Aqua Velva is the stuff you drink :)
