Using kiwi neutral shoe polish for bedding release agent? Edit—- black kiwii worked good - that tin will last me quite awhile

Is there something I'm missing here? Why not just buy an actual release agent? I've used Partall Paste #2 for years. It works excellent. I've used Pol-Ease 2300, Stoner Rocket Release, Meguiars MMR all with perfect results. All are easily available for less than discontinued shoe polish.

I'll be trying this next time I have to do one

I've use Sailkote by McLube for decades on my race boats, it was originally labeled 1700 for the dry lube spray. Use it on any zippers or friction points in your hunting/camping/fishing gear. Its also hydrophobic, so great to use on gun case and hunting pack zippers.

thanks for info fast 14

The problem with the colored shoe polish is that the color will bleed into the bedding material.
Guess how I found out.
well froggy im gonna wipe it off so hopefully i get most of it and ive got some black kiwi and am using devcon steel putty which is gary/black so it should be ok. Ill find out today as ive got one setting up right now. thanks. and if my bedding changes colors its ok with me.

This stuff works good for me. Application couldn’t be quicker or easier, but damn it is expensive and out of stock.
yeah if i was doing a bunch of bedding jobs I would for sure use some kind of mold release but i just do one for myself once in awhile and kiwi neutral has always worked fine for me so why buy something if i dont need to. plus i like to experiment- ill find out how kiwi black works in a little bit. thanks bill

Try again...

I'll order one of these for a trial run unless anyone has tried and not liked the results.

I've always used Brownell's Accra Release but $33 a can is getting too pricey.

WARNING:
TRIED A TEST RUN...THIS STUFF DID NOT WORK AT ALL.

I have used kiwi neutral with good success as a release agent but i am wondering if any color kiwi shoe polish would work also? — its getting hard to find the neutral around here. thanks

Edit 10/16/24—— i have used some black kiwi- will see how that works in the morning
Kelby's told me they use Carnuba wax. That's probably what's in shoe polish.

I like the Brownells aerosol, but I was fortunate to stash a couple of cans of J&J Paste Wax as well. For those concerned with the pigments in shoe polishes, I believe they make it in clear too. Sorry if someone already mentioned that.

just a FYI SC Johnson has discontinued Kiwi shoe products as well now. I just got two rifles curing right now. I brought a can of Partall #2 to try out. 18 bucks for a can was much cheaper than buying Kiwi or much more for Johsons paste wax on eBay. I’ve used Johnson’s and Kiwi for many years but pretty much ran out of johnsons over a year ago and down too one can of Kiwi.
