Skim bed a Savage action

I'm confused,
I read the great article titled "Stress free pillar bedding" in the Tchnical Articles section. Lots of great info. In the 20 caliber section they recommend rifles chambered in 20cal and say that the Model 12 would only need a "skim" bed.
From my understanding skim bed is different from glass or pilar bed. Am I right? What is the difference between them.
Does skim bed mean not removing any material from where the receiver meets the aluminum bedding block? Just applying a "skim" layer?
I have a pound of 10110 Devcon and a container of Kiwi Natural shoe polish, just wondering as to the proper procedure for beding a Savage action to the aluminum bedding block.
Do I Devcon the pillars?
Where,if any) do I remove material?
Please clarify things for me.
Thanks in advance

The aluminum bedding in a Savage is more of a rough copy of the underside of the action that pillars - better than nothing but not perfect. Skim bedding is accomplished by roughing up the bedding block to give the Devcon a surface to adhere to then putting an amount of Devcon sufficient to fill all the voids and putting the action back in and allowing the Devcon to harden to "complete" the skin bedding job.

My Model 12 LRPV was sloppy in the factory bedding and the action would move a lot side to side and back and forth. After skim bedding, it is rock solid now. THis is a GOOD thing.

I would be sure to use modeling clay to full all the little crevices that you do not want Devcon getting into before bedding it.

Generally skim bedding is just applying a very light coat over the existing bedding to fill in any varience's in the original bedding. The original bedding needs to be scuffed up to help adhesion of the new material.....

That stuff grabs on good to most anything, but I use 150-180 for prepping prior to bedding......
I also make small half moon cuts with a half round gouge in the area to be glassed
just in case.....
