Removing Kiwi Polish

Hello all, I am having trouble removing the kiwi polish I use for a release agent after bedding. It seems to leave a "sheen" on the matte black cerakote. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Tony.

We always used alcohol in the sevice to shine our shoes with the polish. It slightly dissolved the polish for an even coat. Put some on a cotton ball and rub it on the polish.

Thanks guys, I will try the acetone in a non conspicuous spot this weekend and post results...

Tony.

Go online and read the MSDS for acetone.

While you’re there check into MEK - methyl ethyl ketone - or ‘cancer in a can’ by another name. Not that I recommend it’s use for shoe polish removal....

If mineral spirits won’t work, try denatured alcohol. Without the methanol that gets added (the ‘denatured’ part) many of us drink small amounts of ethanol with various dilutants & flavorings.

(DO NOT DRINK DENATURED ALCOHOL! Let’s be crystal clear about that!!)

Oh yeah, gotta stay away from that evil acetone. It's so toxic it is the active ingredient in fingernail polish remover. Besides, the fact that the human body produces small amounts of it when breaking down fat definitely renders it an unacceptable environmental contaminant. LOL.

Seriously, acetone is probably the least toxic strong solvent commonly used by hobbyists. BTW, ethanol ( denatured alcohol) is a poor grease and oil solvent.

Well, acetone worked ok, but still had to do a fair amount of scrubbing. MEK was recommended by a couple of people, but I didn't get my paws on any yet. Ethanol will hardly touch it.

Wow.

Ethanol & acetone are both polar solvents, will
mix with water... probably not best choices.

You try mineral spirits / pain thinner yet? That’s almost the same solvent used to make up Kiwi polish, readily disolves waxes.

MEK I’d avoid unless desparate & then only with proper precautions. Nasty stuff.

WOW, no I haven't tried paint thinner yet. Was hoping to use something that I had on my shelf, thanks for your input though.
