Remington 788 Extraction Problems

OK gunsmiths. My bother in law and I have an issues kicking our butts. Its his Rem 788 in 6mm Rem that after the round is fired the case does not extract. Sometimes, not all the time. The head space checked and a Sako extractor has even been installed. The weird thing is it will not fail to extract if the rifle is not fired. The thing will extract 100% if not fired. And when fired, it doesn't extract. All you have to do is push the bolt back forward, and the round will extract. This is not a big problem on the range, but is when it happens in the field. He has had it looked at by a gunsmith, and we thought we had the problem solved when the Sako extractor was installed. But it happened again this weekend. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

How hot are your loads? I have many 788 s and my 6 mm,22-250 and 243 gave me fits having the same problem . No problems with 222 or 223. I reduced the load , changed the brass ,and have had no problems since. Are your cases too long ?

Sorry fixed the eject vs extract deal. Ejects just fine extraction is the problem.
We have had the same problem with factory loads and have hand loaded from the bottom end up to top end and same extraction problem.

If it has done it since new even with the sako style extractor, have it borescoped and check for chamber, throat , alignment, gouges ,scratches, etc.

I had the same problem with a .222. Turned out it was the WW cases that were the problem, as the rims were undersize. New brass, problem went away.
