Rem 700 6BR

I’m beginning to gather parts. I need to pay a few bills (and take my wife to DisneyWorld) before I can gather the rest. At least there’s still 6 more months of winter, so no rush.
The mount that came with the action holds the scope I have too low. I’ll be changing that as well.

I can’t see it. Does the scope touch the barrel?
Add: Take your wife to Walmart instead and buy a stock and trigger.

Do they come off of the base? I'm not familiar with the Leupold setup.
Yes, they come off the bases. Remove the tops and scope. Loosen the windage screws on the rear base. That will pop off. The front ring turns counter clockwise 90 degrees and pops out.

Ok, I freed up some room in the budget and spent some money this evening. I have a stock, rings, and a scope on the way.

I think this is going to come together nicely.

I have an old beat up Rem 700 30-06 that just sits in my safe, I do not enjoy shooting it. It's an old ADL hunting rifle.

Lately I've been thinking about rebarreling to something more enjoyable to shoot. I primarily only target shoot. Max is about 200yds. I've been reading about 6BR, and think that would be a neat choice. I do hand load, so a lack of factory ammo is not an issue.

Now the tricky part.
Is this something that I can achieve with off the shelf parts? Or is it 100% necessary to have a smith put this together. I'm not looking for precision, and I'm not afraid to buy some tools.
I have a Rem 700 BDL Varmint model. The bolt face is the correct diameter for 6BR Norma. I had Kelbley put a 6BR normal Kreiger 14 twist barrel on it. It shoots under .400" with 55-65 gr bullets. If I did it again I would get a 13 twist maybe a 12 twist so I could shoooot 70-75 gr bullets. 55-65 gr bullets are ideal for GH. I seldom shoot beyound 300 yards. I got a no turn .030" freebore. If I did it again I think I would get less freebore. Sometimes you have to go with the reamer the gunsmith has or buy the reamer. I always loaded single shot. Don't know if it magazine feeds. I don't care for the type of shooting I do. I think the the big thing is to spend the money for a top quality barrel (Bartlein, Kreiger, Lilja and few few others.

If you buy a barrel ask the gunsmith that chambers the barrel to put the reamer blueprint number, neck diameter , twist and freebore on the receipt.

I went a step further and bought a complete barreled action.
