Recommended Rifle Cases?

What your choice is comes down to how much you value it’s content.

Foam was never meant for long term parking. Especially if you live in high humidity.

I have a Boyd’s hard double rifle case that holds my 20tac and cz 204r
The 20tac has a 30” barrel

These sre nice cases if they are still available.

Reason I went with the Boyd’s case over pelican was the latches. Pelicans are great but plastic latches in Phoenix I was afraid would not hold up over time.
The Boyd’s latches are metal and are very tough

For driving to the range, with a barrel 30" or shorter, try to find a Plano AirGlide. The rifle sits vertically so there is no side pressure on your riflescope. The forward foam cradle works fine with 3"-wide benchrest/F-class forearms. Unfortunately, the Airglide is out of production, but you may find one on eBay or a gun club member sale.

For airline shipping you'll want a sturdy, TSA-approved case. NOTE: You may want to consider separating the barreled action from the stock so you can go with a shorter case. For heavy rifles going as checked baggage, I like the big cases with wheels on one end.
The Plano AirGlide really is a nice case for taking your gun to the range. I like them because the bolt can remain in the rifle while in the case. I liked it so well that I bought 4 near the end of when they were available and only needed two.

Forum Boss: Another advantage is that the Airglide's foam rifle supports align the muzzle slightly down. I would fill my barrel with Wipe-out foam, then plug the chamber and muzzle (with a bag over muzzle) and put the gun in the case. Because of the nose-down orientation (chamber ABOVE muzzle), any leakage would flow out the muzzle NOT into the chamber. After the hour drive home from the range and a couple more hours wait, I could patch out the barrel. You guys would not believe how little brushing I had to do. Like Jayplace I bought a couple more Airglides before they stopped production.

I know you are looking for a soft case. Any of the ones mentioned will serve its limited purpose.

If you want a quality case, these are top notch:IMG_1255.png

These are Great cases--a pity they quit making them! Prices on used ones keep going up--if you see one and the hinges are intact you better buy it!

I just bought my 2nd Bulldog soft case and really like them! ($92.00 delivered on Amazon). I also own a Creedmoor Sports case that is also nice but in my opinion, on the Expensive side...

I always have a couple of Air glides on hunting/prairie dog trips. Keep thinking one of the rotomold companies would make a couple slight alterations(52-53" long) slightly taller to fit a chassis rifle. And call it an AirFit or Air/Tac( that should sell at Wal-Mart). A double wide option would be nice also.

Not cheap, but made in Arizona, last a lifetime, heavy duty soft case.
