Recommended Rifle Cases?

What do you guys recommend as far as a scoped rifle case has to be wide enough to handle a scope . Soft case .

To be honest, mine are a hodgepodge of sale finds, hand me downs, and gifts. As long as they are well padded and fit, they work. Midway brand, Allen, what ever is on sale.

For driving to the range, with a barrel 30" or shorter, try to find a Plano AirGlide. The rifle sits vertically so there is no side pressure on your riflescope. The forward foam cradle works fine with 3"-wide benchrest/F-class forearms. Unfortunately, the Airglide is out of production, but you may find one on eBay or a gun club member sale.

For airline shipping you'll want a sturdy, TSA-approved case. NOTE: You may want to consider separating the barreled action from the stock so you can go with a shorter case. For heavy rifles going as checked baggage, I like the big cases with wheels on one end.

Best case ever for going back and forth to the range. "hard" case but super lightweight. Probably as light and lighter than a lot of drag bags and no pressure on the scope or bolt handle if you leave it in.

I had 4 of them, but sold off a couple a few years ago.

For my longer range rifles with bigger scopes these are really nice. Have pockets for barrel tip and but to fit into and they have nice side pockets.

For my sporter sized rifles these have been bomb proof for over 20 years.

I have 2 of the Allen soft cases.

Work great for my shotguns and my Single shot Henry.

For rifles with scopes, not so great.
Can be very tight fitting around the scope.

Have you seen this? I'm thinking about getting some for my case.

No.
Tools are a different problem in some respects.
They really don’t have temperature fluctuations. Therefore condensation is not a big deal.
To the point: open foam is like a sponge, it HOLDS water.
Closed foam is exactly that. Each cell is closed. Closed= no sponge action
Many a hunter has put his rifle away for the season only to see a rust disaster months later.
If they’re not telling me closed foam I’m not buying.

Browning makes a nice long-deep one for a simple hunting rifle case. There's a few more like it out there, well padded, 52"+ and deep enough. Browning 1410199852

Otherwise, Savior bags. They are heavier but super tough and great range or trip bags as not only can you get one to fit most anything they are very well padded and have pockets for mags, bipods, or other stuff that goes with the rifle. They are double bags and fine for two hunting rifles, or single large/heavy rifle. They come up to 55" but the 51" bag will accommodate a chassis with 28" barrel w/brake and 56mm scope no problem. Just pay attention to their internal dimensions, they list both int/ext.

Kaisen is closed foam. I would never store my rifle in a case closed or open foam. I also put silica packs in my gun cases.

You asked about 'soft cases', I'm a believer in hard cases. They can be inconvenient in many situations, but I think over all they are far superior. They run in price from very affordable to out of sight. The ones I've used for many years are very affordable, well padded and accommodate my heavy rifles well. I remove the bolt, put it in a deer skin cover, lay the rifle in the case, the bolt goes in near the barrel. I've already put the proper cleaning rod in under the foam liner. The case goes in the back of the pick up, hinges down, handle up so it takes up a minimum of space. The other rifles are right beside it, other gear stops the rifles from tipping over. I've driven a lot of 2 track and thousands of miles of freeway without any problems. I have a lockable cover on my P.U., everything is out of site, at the motel I look like every other tourist. They do require some storage room for sure, especially if you have a number of rifles.

After trying Boyt soft gun cases they are pretty much all I use now. Heavy canvas and generous padding and extremely heavy duty zippers they will last a lifetime. They also make cases with leather outer that are very good.
