Recommended Front Rest for F-Class and LR?

Hi All,

I'm just starting to get into precision long range shooting and one of my goals is to shoot f class in a year or so once im ready. Right now i shoot off a caldwell front and rear bag and want to upgrade. From all the research ive been doing the best budget friendly option would be to get a shadetree top and a good base to put it on.

I was looking at BE front rests but cant seem to find them anywhere for sale at a decent price. A lot of posts say that a caldwell br rock base wont be good enough either.

Can anyone suggest a good base thats around $200 that would pair nicely with the shadetree top?

If thats not a good option could you reccomend what is a good option for an entry level front rest? Preferably under $500.

Pickings are slim it seems on the new and used market, brownells can't tell me when the heavy varmint will be back in stock and i'm not sure where to look for used front rests except these forums.

Thanks for all the help!

You can still get the Bald Eagle from Grizzly at a good price
Oh damn, thanks a lot! everytime i went to the product pages i was going to the ones that were out of stock. Would you recommend i use this rest just to start then or get the shadetree top as well?

I run a Shadetree on top my Bald Eagle like @butchlambert does. I have the cast iron sling shot Bald Eagle. Whether you start with just the Bald Eagle, or with the Bald Eagle with the Shadetree, is kind of based on your available funds.

One thing to keep in mind. As you upgrade your rests the previous model you used should sell well on the forum. The Bald Eagle will be a substantial upgrade over a Caldwell.

Thanks everyone for all the advice, i really appreciate it!

I'm going to grab the cast iron triangle BE which is the only one available right now, give that a go for a few months and then upgrade the top if i feel i need to. Does anyone have a good recommendation for the front bag and a rear bag?

Protektor Bags

Protektor Model or Edgewood. Can’t do wrong with either one. Width dependent on your stock. As far as material I ran 3M
Material on both front and rear. Others may have a better answer for material than what I chose to run.

BE sells a front bag that fits perfectly and works fine. Google BR rest modification to learn how to remove the windage cable and attach the knob directly onto the head for more precise operation.

Find a good used Rock BR or BE and remove the top. Then add a DR Greenlaw top and you'll be all set. A Sinclair speed screw on the rear foot would be icing on the cake. Never much cared for joystick models.
