Recommended 40 S&W guns?

I got an STI Trojan in .40 s&w. Its a 1911 style pistol. I love it.

Ya I noticed that. If I remember right back in the 90s when I got my first G20, the 40S&W didn't quite fit flush in the chamber. About 10 years ago I bought a KKM barrel and they've worked ever since. I now have a BarSto barrel and they work fine in that as well. Makes me wonder why. The BarSto is a custom fit barrel.

The only problem I had with my 9mm AR was the firing pin. I would get a occasional double. Went to a TI one and no more problem. Also should say i also think the original firing pin was a little long. and 1 more point on the 9mm one i was using by accident my federal sm pistol primers instead of cci i had bought. I think that also had a influence. I will double check the buffer if it is a standard buffer but will let you know for sure. My 45 acp I had played a little with buffers. Mainly because i was trying to push it harder. My sons 45 win mag is a standard buffer and both of the 9mm win mag wild cats were standard buffers.

How can you shoot a 40 in a 10mm when they headspace off the case mouth? Theres quite a bit of difference there. A 40 will disappear in a 10mm chamber

Well what im saying is a glock (or any pistol) thats only 70% reliable is a brick, so you can say you pretty much cant shoot a 40 in a 10mm. Thanks for sharing your results!

Have seen a couple suggestions of double stack 1911's and would agree this is a fine choice. Shot USPSA and 3 gun for years using a STI Edge in 40S&W . Pistol has around 85,000 rounds down the barrel and still shoots great and looks not new but damn good. Yes its on the third trigger, but as I recall that is the only part replaced. You can have a 10 mm barrel fit and shoot that if you desire. Ran the loads long 1.180 using 180gr. bullets and just never had a feeding issue. Using N320 they were soft recoiling.

I came across alot of 40 cal ammo.. enough to justify buying a gun for it, and I have dies to load it anyways.

This would be a tinkering toy, just fun, plink, red dot, shoot shit kinda deal... what 40 cal firearm would yall get? I'm thinking about a quarter circle 10 carbine, or a 10mm Smith and Wesson revolver...

the carbine would be fun, glock mags, red dot, plinker...

The revolver would give me the option to load and shoot 10mm as well, could hunt with a 10mm if I wanted, wouldn't burn through ammo as fast... revolver would last longer...

Carbines $2300+-, revolver is $1000+-

The answer is both. But Santa aint got enough money to buy both plus other stuff I want..

just but a 40 cal barrel from wolf or someone else for your glock 17 or 19. i done it in reverse. i bought 9mm barrels for my g22s. picked up a few mags also although i’ve had luck using the wrong mags but wouldn’t trust them with my life.

Ok! I’ll chime in. One of my favorite, most accurate shooters is a Beretta PX Storm in 40 S&W. I have big hands and it fits well. There. I’m out of the closet.

Men are visual creatures. Shoot some 5 gallon water jugs with your favorite +P 9mm, then a 40. The 40 not only blows up the water jug, but blows it off the table it is sitting on. I could not tell the difference between a 40 and 45 on the 5 gallon water jugs. Ammo was:

a. Winchester pdx-1; 180g in 40 and 230g in HST
B. Federal HST; 180g in 40 and 230g in HST
C. hand loads with GT 175g HP in the 40 and 200g HP in the 45 ACP

These water jug tests scared the heck out of my neighbor! He went and bought fmj for his carry gun, said he did not want to blow anybody up! What was he thinking?

Pictures of recovered bullets are very scary, to say the least! They look like buzz saw blades!

For a guy that likes to reload, a Lead 175g-180g HP at 900 fps has very soft recoil, and very, very accurate! Plenty good enough for self defense, also as these bullets expanded to 85 caliber! GT bullets rocks!

I have 357Sig and 40 S&W barrels for my P320. Same slide and recoil spring, same magazine. quick and easy change. A member on the Sigtalk forum has done a 10mm conversion on one and has over 1000 rounds through it without issue, but that wouldn't be my approach until Sig or Grayguns offers a 10mm version. My preference if I were to ever want to shoot 10mm and 40 would be the revolver. Like some S&W revolver triggers. Like the stainless revolvers. Go for it.

It wont work in a glock

I'll post a link below that you might find interesting - I certainly did. After reading this and doing some additional research I decided to try shooting 40 S&W out of my unmodified Glock 20. I've since fired hundreds of rounds of 40 S&W though the G20 without a single malfunction. I have loaded some rounds long, but I've also fired lots of commercial range ammo from Winchester and Federal - when you could still get it - without any problem. So, I'm convinced that it does work in a Glock.
