Recommended 40 S&W guns?

Will the 1/4 circle carbine shoot and feed both10mm and 40S&W? When I saw this I thought maybe that the difference in length would cause problems????

Glock 22 , and a drop-in 9mm barrel . Soften the trigger pull , and "Good to go". The Hornady Critical Duty works well , and has great stopping power in both calibers .

You CAN shoot 40 S&W in a 10 mm pistol, but you might have to adjust the recoil spring, or not? So I’d get a 10mm pistol, with which you can hunt.
Back in the mid-90's I shot lots of 40 S&W out of my Glock 20 - BUT - it was with 200 gr bullets loaded long,1.27-1.28. Factory loaded 40's would only be held by the extractor hook which may or may not allow the striker to smack the the primer with sufficient force to fire the round due to the imprecise manner in which the extractor was holding the round. A stock 10mm recoil spring might allow extraction of the empty case, if so it would just dribble out of the ejection port.

part of why I bought a 40sw. I also wanted to shoot major in USPSA. I know there are better options but 40 was easy and then I would have a matching gun to my 9mm platform. That had a lot of value to me. now having both and shooting them if it wasn't for the sights it would be hard to know which I was shooting.... Can't suggest it enough.

Hey Dusty - I just returned from the range where I shot 7 factory length 40 S&W rounds out of my Glock 20. I have fired thousands of 40 S&W rounds out of it but all were handloads using 200 grain bullets loaded to an OAL of 1.27-1.28. I took a crappy video of it on my iPhone but can't get it to download to my Mac. What you are missing is that when the round is stripped from the magazine - no matter if it's a 40 S&W or 10mm - it slides up the beeechface and underneath the extractor hook. The extractor is what prevents the 40 S&W case from disappearing into the 10mm chamber, assuming proper tension on the extractor to hold the case firmly against the breechface. Given all that, the 40 S&W case does have some "wiggle" room inside that 10mm chamber so the striker may or may not hit the primer squarely enough to set it off. Out of the 10 factory 40's I attempted to shoot today only seven actually fired, the other three had a very light striker tip indentation on the primer but not enough to fire. So while 40 S&W factory length rounds actually will fire out of a 10mm chamber it is far from 100% and I certainly would not recommend it!

Well what im saying is a glock (or any pistol) thats only 70% reliable is a brick, so you can say you pretty much cant shoot a 40 in a 10mm. Thanks for sharing your results!

Revolvers and pistols, apples to grapefruit. Several revolvers are counterbored to use moon clips with rimless pistol rounds. If I'm going to shoot a pistol I want it to go bang every time I pull the trigger on a loaded round. What would be the point of chambering and attempting to shoot a round it wasn't made for.

I have built a few pistol cal AR 15. I really enjoy shooting them. All are DI and shoot great. 1st was a 45 acp with grease gun mags and with my can is very quiet. My son liked it so much he built one in 45 win mag. He has killed a couple of deer and a few hogs. I built a 9mm one and i built 2 wild cats based on the 9mm win mag case.
The glock mag lowers are the way to go. I have been thinking of getting a large frame glock mag lower and moving all the parts over on my 45 ar then i can share the mags with my g 41.
Down side to a DI ar is lead bullets are not to friendly to the gas system.
Good luck with your decision
Phil,
I was hoping to pick your brain for a 9mm AR build Ive been thinking about doing. I've heard that 9mm ARs can be a bit of a pain to get running right. Seen that most of the problems point to the buffer. I hate the idea of spending money on several different buffer just to find the right one. Can you point me in the right direction? What weights are you using in each of the calibers you have worked with? I will most likely start with a 9mm, but am not ageist 10mm, 45ACP and 40 S&W. Could be future builds if I have good luck with the 9mm.

The only problem I had with my 9mm AR was the firing pin. I would get a occasional double. Went to a TI one and no more problem. Also should say i also think the original firing pin was a little long. and 1 more point on the 9mm one i was using by accident my federal sm pistol primers instead of cci i had bought. I think that also had a influence. I will double check the buffer if it is a standard buffer but will let you know for sure. My 45 acp I had played a little with buffers. Mainly because i was trying to push it harder. My sons 45 win mag is a standard buffer and both of the 9mm win mag wild cats were standard buffers.
I will send you a PM

I personally love my M&P, I did however change the trigger as I didn't care for the stock trigger at all. it a S&W 40
