Recognition of National Records - HP & F-Class

NRA Reversing Policy -

I have been informed by NRA of the following:

Upon completion of the 2014 season and following recognition of 2014 National Records on an annual basis as established last year by the NRA's High Power Committee, the NRA will return to the previous policy and procedure of recognizing National Records set by High Power competitors (including F-Class) at the time they are set - reversing the 2014 policy.

2015 already looks like a better year for F-Class and High Power competitors, generally.

I am involved in attempting to get three national record F-Open ties shot here in MN during the 2014 season to be recognized by the NRA. Trying to get the NRA to respond to questions regarding the recognition of these accomplishments is futile. I know they are understaffed but as competitors (customers), shouldn't they be more responsive to communication?

As I understand it, the 2014 National Records will be recognized at the end of the year - assuming they hold.

Have you tried an email to Sheri Judd - sjudd@nrahq.org? She is the Manager for High Power Rifle Competition - and yes, she is alone in that area - her primary staff support has left NRA and they are looking for a replacement - anybody want a job?

You can also try an email to Dennis Willing - his email is dwilling@nrahq.org - he's in charge of all of NRA's Competitions Division.

This is proof that the NRA does care and listen to what us shooters want. Sometimes we are quick in blaming the NRA, not realizing that an aircraft carrier does not turn as quickly as a speed boat.

I understand about being understaffed. I appreciate all that the current staff does but I would offer a couple simple suggestions to improve the match reporting process, whether records were set or not.

1) After the NRA receives all of the completed match scores, they could easily send an email to the match director/stat officer acknowledging receiving the scores for the match. It could be a simple form/auto reply message. I am often questioned as to why a shooters classification hasn't gone up, why they don't have their classification card, etc. It seems that once the paperwork is mailed to the NRA, all contact ends. I will say that they have a great response policy if you accidently don't pay the correct match fees!

2) After receiving the additional paperwork documenting a national record score, send acknowledge to the shooter and the match director/stat officer that the record is under review and may take XXX days to be recognized. This would eliminate countless emails, phone calls and letters that takes up more of the already overworked staff's time. It may just be another score to the NRA staff, but to the shooter it is really a big deal, often the pinnacle of years of hard work.

Revisiting a sore subject around these parts....

I just checked the national F-Class records on the NRA website. (2) National Record Ties shot at the MN F-Class State Championship have not been recognized yet. Nor was a tying 20 shot 1000 yard string shot at the MN LR State Championship. We are nearing the middle of March! It should not take 8-9 months to recognize a national record string! Or let's just not keep score anymore.

Yes, emails are being sent to Sheri and Dennis again as well.

I've been biting my tongue a lot over this issue! I really appreciate you staying on this matter. Have you heard any thing about how long it could take? I seem to check the website about every week and it's pretty frustrating not seeing any updates.

I was told by the NRA that they were looking at all possible Nat'l records in January. I forgot about Hunter's Jr. record. That makes (4) national records set in MN in 2014. Like I said earlier, you get an instant response if you mis-pay your match fees but otherwise, everything sent to the NRA is ignored. I know they are understaffed but I would sure think national records should have some priority.

Lisa sent another email this afternoon. I sure hope for their sake, they get going on this. Many of us know all too well her ability to make life uncomfortable! ;D

Sheri sent me an email in January stating she had a "volunteer" high power shooter assisting in updating all records established last year and expected recognitions to be sent out mid February. She also said she was interviewing for a permanent staffer to keep the records current. The wheels turn slowly.

Apparently you have not looked at any national records to see how many of them currently have co-holders.

Read the NRA rules and look at the records. There are many ties and they all deserve to be recognized. Why would you disrespect a shooter's accomplishments just because they were not the first to shoot a particular score? These particular records are important ones:

Sub Junior and Junior F-TR at 600 yards: 197-9X
Civilian F-Open at 1000 yards: 200-15X (TIE)
Civilian F-Open at 600 yards: 200-19X (TIE)
Civilian Woman F-Open at 600 yards: 200-16X (TIE)

Warren, now "effendude" is a match director who has admitted on this forum that he doesn't mind not following the highpower rules in his matches if he doesn't personally agree with a particular rule. I am surprised that the NRA would allow any national records from any match he runs.
