Reason why some die mfrs don’t make Wilson style seaters

The people who knew and worked with him called him Jim.
A lot of the people who shot matches with him and tested Sierra prototypes called him Martin.

Even the attorney who swindled match rifles from his estate after his passing called him Martin.

Seater die bullet guide diameters:

Wilson BR chamber type .308, circa 1966;. .3105"
RCBS standard .308, circa 1966; . . . . . . . . .3100"
RCBS standard .308, circa 1979; . . . . . . . . .3115"
RCBS competition .308, circa 1980's; . . . . .3107"
RCBS standard .300 Win Mag, circa 1999, .3104"
RCBS standard .30-.338, circa 1967, . . . . . .3102"
Bonanza BR .30-.338, circa 1980; . . . . . . . .3093"

30 caliber bullet diameters I've measured go from .3070" to .3092".
Sierras were all .3082" except the 155 gr. Palma at .3084".

Do you have anything current?

Answer to the question....Different strokes for different folks and not everyone drives a Ford. I use Wilson seaters on some of my rifles, Redding on some and even Forster on one. The reason, depending on the brass and caliber of the weapon, different seater gave me better = more consistent runout on the finished cartridge.

I wonder why so many top shooters still prefer Wilson seaters ;)

Probably because there isn’t a way to measure seating PSI unless we use an arbor type press. Now if someone were to make a 7/8-14 Hydro press, then we could not only use a 7/8-14 seater but obsess about sizing PSI as well.........

:D

In my humble experience, using good threaded dies or using my reamed Wilson dies makes little difference in terms of runout.
The reason why I use Wilson dies is because I can measure and control seating pressure (using an hydro seater) and have a smaller oal spread when seating (less leverage= more feel, using a pressure gauge on the seater will tell you if your seating action is consistent).
