RE Money Order Payment for classified ads

I just went to my local post office. Its the largest one in about a 75 mi. radius to get an USPS money order as requested by a seller on this forum. A common request. I was told they have been unable to get money orders for seversl months, have no clue when of if they will be available. Went to a smaller out laying PO, same thing.

That’s very odd....... Did they say why? I’ve seen many reports of the Federal Government steering away from all forms of cash. Wondering if this might be related.....

I've been able to get USPS money orders all along, no lack of money orders or the service from the front counter.

The local postmaster may be having problems working through all the difficulties of the current environment. Who knows, something doesn't ring true...

I guess post office efficiency. I guess it's part of the "new normal". Nothing surprises me anymore. Like the explosion in Nashville beside where the NSA monitors phone calls in Georgia, there's a surprise........not,

Why would you pay for a USPS MO when there is Zelle, Venmo, PayPal and good old personal check?

Sorry. But, why would anyone request a PO MO? You cannot cash one at the Post Office because they never have enough cash on hand. You end up taking them to your bank and depositing them just like a check.

Seller, Venmo, and PayPal may not be used to purchase a significant range of gun-related products — it is a violation of their policies. Likewise a few credit card issuers are not allowing their cards to be used to purchase firearms. Accordingly there are very good reasons to take payment via Postal Money Order.

My understanding is if there is fraud on either end the post office cops will investigate. I don't know if that really happens, but it may make the scammers nervous. When taken to the bank they don't bounce.

Well, a USP money order is considered by many sellers as a very acceptable, easy to cash form of "guaranteed" payment. You don't have to wait for one to clear like you would with a personal check. Many sellers are not interested in personal checks for this reason and may require you to wait until it clears before shipping. I know I would. Also, it is easier to fake a "certified check" than a USPMO.

Well, i just got my barrel today. Was shipped USPS from Mo. on the 4th.
Tracking showed i was to receive it by the 7th.
Went to Springfield, MO. and sat.
Took 13 days to go to Kansas City, MO. About 100 miles.
Then went to Indianapolis, IN.
Then to Saint Louis, MO.
Back to Indianapolis.
Pittsburgh, PA.
Finally to Altoona, PA.
Which as JEFFPPC says is rather large!
In total 22 days.

And we wonder why USPS is constantly needing bailed out.

I have never purchased a po money order, but my question is, How do they differ from going to your personal bank and getting one?

Plenty of sellers specify Postal Money Order only.
