These guys get the range from 6 AM to 8 AM on odd numbered Tuesdays, unless they come with their parents.

These guys get the range the rest of the time... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yep, we get them also. Our local range is owned by the county and managed by RVSSA. (check out www.rvssa.org )
We now have a full time RSO there when ever the range is open. 8:00 am to sun down. We also try to have 2 RSO's there also. The rules are posted at every shooting position. Because it is a county park the RSO has the full weight of county law enforcement. Per say, if I have an idiot (I being the RSO) and I ask him to leave and he does not, I have a direct number to the sheriff's office and they will be there in 2 minutes.
By having full time RSO's and being in plain sight, it sort of keeps the idiots in check. It also seems to help keep the ranges cleaner as shooters are picking up their used targets.

I personally like the a** that picked up my fireformed brass off the bench as I was firing, yes, I did threaten him with bodily harm. And the a** argued with me. I don't go there anymore because the brass picker just struts on to the range in front of the benches picking brass...... gonna get shot by someone not watching him. Stupid is what stupid does.

I had the same thing happen to me at a public conservation range. I was shooting one of my pistols and this guy was sweeping it up as fast as it came out. I stopped and turned to the guy and said, "If you put your bucket right where the cases are landing you wouldnt have to sweep them up." Guy stopped and stared at me for a moment and then walked on down the line. Have never been back to a public conservation shooting range since.

Idiots and other willful violators of range rules don't just go to public ranges. They manage to get on private (club) ranges as well. They sure don't like being called on their screw ups and really don't like it to have to explain themselves in front of a board of directors.
Our club like other clubs and public ranges has our share of Range Idiots but we have a very proactive Board of Directors who are not afraid to confront these shooters and discipline them including dismissal from the club when needed. We are lucky to have directors like KMart (whom we like to call the club sheriff) and other members who are looking out for the interest of the club. Some of these idiots may not realize it but their violation of the rules not only put their fellow shooters at risk but the club itself. The last thing I would want to see is our club closed due to the actions of idiots like these.

That's why, when we were looking to buy a new house, I told my wife we needed some property so I could build my own range. I am too paranoid and have to short of a temper for public ranges. I'm very choosy about who I let around me, with a gun.

I belong to two private ranges that are night & day.

Range A sponsors 2-4 public events every weekend; skeet, trap, IDPA, IHMSA, etc. This range has no sense of humor when it comes to the rules and a small infraction can get you suspended for 6 months. Something really stupid will cost your membership.

Range B sponsors youth groups and IDPA matches. The youth groups are pretty well supervised and well done. But if I'm ever shot it will be at this range. This private range actually allows hot carry anywhere on the property and most members do carry a loaded pistol, not really sure who they are trying to impress. Rules aren't really enforced so I try to only use this range weekdays.

If it is not loaded it can not help you. Just think of those loaded handguns like insurance, a drivers license, or anything else you do not need until you need it.

I have the same issues at my range:

Old guys with those long wooden rifles made way back. They call them Grands or springfields or something. They try and shoot a 30 cal bullet (that came out in 1906?) some 300 yards with iron sites. They refuse to to remove those laid down pine tree loud *** antique rifles off the bench so us autoloaders can go set new targets.

I guess if it takes a pick up bed full of equipment and two hours to set up one of those old school wooden hammers, it would be inconvenient to make the range safe by putting it on the rack so others can go down range - like once every hour. But they don't care.

Thank god there are always plenty of black rifle guys there to pressure these old guys into being considerate of others.

Do they not have the same rights you enjoy, to shoot whatever they choose to at that range? Are they complaining about your "black rifle"? Pressure them for what reason? To act like a tuff guy?

I have seen so much wrong with people it is not funny. It is surprising to see some guy at 20yds trying to get on paper and they are ok with the whole range being 80 yes. behind them.

They guy with the scope that fell off is still the tops in lost sheep for me.

Muzzle discipline is big with me it is amazing how so many will flag others and have no idea they did it. I do not care if your shotgun is open or your bolt is out.

Might I suggest YOU re-read your post? How do those "old school wooden hammers" inconvenience you? Having trouble with the usage of the english language? Be careful with your words. Some of those "old guys" are quite capable of showing you how the cow ate cabbage ;)

At our range, no one can move in front of the firing line unless all rifles are in the rack.

The old men with those old noisy wood 30-06 hammers, refuse to rack those guns.

Point is:
It's not always the black rifle guys who break the rules and are inconsiderate....as mentioned earlier in this thread.
