Rail Guns at 600 yard BR

Another way to look at the unlimited class is its one more class to enter your LG in. Everyone is always saying they want to shoot more. I also would not look at it as a rail gun class, something totally different may prove out to be the ticket. Unlimited means just that and I have no doubt we would see some very interesting designs/ideas.

Run what you brung and let it sort itself out.

Cool. You gonna do 5 shot or 10 shot groups for them?

Tom

Don't you think it would be neat to go to 10 shots for record in all BR comps except for 100-200 ( that system gets in a lot of shooting/loading by the end of the day)? I AM kind of spoiled here in western Pa. with Williamsport & Reade within a day trip ( 10 record shot ranges ). It would be nice if the W.V. ranges would go to 10. It would sure motivate this guy to get there & I am sure others. I am not saying there is anything flawed with the 5 shot system, but once you shoot 10 the 1st thing I asked myself is " why don't they all do this "..

Rick

The way some of these guys shoot, we will need moving backers to prove 10 shots at 600. I think we will start with 5 and see where it leads us

My Paris gun with the new Berger 238mm Hybrids. It's unstoppable. ;)

If we use Shot Marker electronic target systems just to verify bullet count, that might allow for 10 shot groups.

I wonder if the Shot Marker system can handle two targets stacked one above the other?
@adamjmac

I suppose the Unlimited crowd should help drive this.

After giving it some thought, I think we could run the unlimited alongside the HG shooters in two relays, that way the the shooters can shoot both HG and unlimited and we could compare targets to see if one bests the other head to head.
Thoughts?

At Red White and Blue we will run a separate relay for rail guns as well as who ever else wants to shoot in it truly unlimited except for caliber rule . It will give us side by side comparison as well as another opportunity to shoot. It will follow HG course of fire at both 600 and 1000.
Good call David.
I like it.

The IBS just brought in two new classes. Think something like sporter and PRC. Think they can go in with the light or heavy gun. Now add in rail gun class for five classes.

Just the computer scoring and separating required will take a paid IT tech to sort and print out. When we get double relays in both heavy and light gun class the shooting takes near the entire day. Go to a triple relay day or more and you may need two days to do a one-day shoot.

Now you have shooters sitting around for hours waiting for results or maybe not waiting and leaving. The scoring staff is flat out pooped after 8 or more hours working and the line and target crews poop out also.

Just thinking that extreme division and complexity for a shoot can lead to difficulties just putting the shoot on and may result in being so difficult to do that organizers may just not bother.

Each club can run what classes they choose, right?

If the unlimited class of railguns is weighing over 20 lbs, i'm surprised they aren't shooting the fastest, flatest shooting cartridges.
Barrel life be darned.

Would make a good case for the eargunsphlitenloudnboomen. :D

I think so.

I will not be working on the Manatee Schedule for next winter's IBS shooting until mid-Summer. That's when it will be time to look into the details. When we put on the shoots it is winter. Sure the weather is like Summer for most of the nation but the amount of daylight is still low. We have to be done before say 4:30 or so to not run out of daylight. That limits the amount of time we have and obviously limits the number of relays we can do. Three is possible in a shoot day for two classes. That means a max of 48 shooters in each class but only for two classes.

Only thing is we get delays. Targets fall, the target crew screws up, shooters protest, targets need re-shot and sometimes things are not quick and easy to get done. Decisions on things also take time and if it can happen, it will. People come a long way to have fun in the sun with their gun ... sounds good heh? It doesn't always work out perfectly and I am just thinking of how new classes might affect being able to put shoots on.
