question on "public I will take it"

I went through a very childish thing with a buyer a few months back. I have to say it was quite the experience and I still feel bad with the time the forum boss spent with the whole mess.
The buyer wanted it his way and threw a fit like a child.
A fellow PM’d me with an offer of a package deal I went that way.

I now totally understand both sides of the thinking.
If a guy wants to make me an offer on the “pile” I am more than willing to move it all at a better price.

I don't sell much but never post on multiple forums. Not fair to potential buyers on the different forums. If it don't sell on one then remove the ad and post on a different site. When I buy I always post "I'll take it, PM sent" which requests payment info and my shipping info.

It means letting the “I’ll take it” be visible as a reply to the thread and not hiding in PMs.

It holds the buyer more accountable and it gives incentive to a buyer to agree to buy without contingencies because then they have assurance they’ll get it.

One very important thing sellers need to do: if you agree to a sale off-site or within your PMs, *first* change your listing to indicate “sale pending” or “sold” so that someone doesn’t come across the ad and drop an “Ill take it” and get stiffed. Then respond to the PM confirming the sale.

What if your the first customer that wants the item but has a question? by the time the question gets answered someone cuts in front of ya, what happens then ?

IMO questions ≠ "I'll take it". So if someone is asking questions and someone else is willing to take it as is, the person who says "I'll take it" gets the item.
Kinda like a feeding frenzy, myself I want the customer to be 110% satisfied with the item and if that means slowing things down long enough to answer a question so be it.
just me of course

I think some items simply aren’t good candidates for an “I’ll take it”. If I have questions, I simply adjust my expectations, do more research, or own the risk.

Good candidates: boxes of unopened bullets with lot numbers. Dies and reloading tools if the pictures are good. New unused barrels. Unused brass. Etc.

Bad candidates: rifles, stocks, scopes, where handling damage, alterations, and wear are a factor.

As a seller my goal is to make every for sale ad good enough to deserve an I’ll take it response. I don’t expect it but I try.

If you want something and you DON'T get it, ever consider that just maybe, you wern't suppose to get it??
If you ask 20 questions and someone else says "I'll take it" AS IS, no questions asked.
I just SOLD it. But, but, but??
I JUST SOLD IT!!;)

Mr. Barrel and others, "I will take it" is like a signed contract for the purchase.

What really pisses me off is "PM Sent". This can include:

a lower offer,

a trade offer,

Questions on the item for sale and a full blown education on the particulars of the item that you are selling

A want for more pictures

Negation on many levels

all to Potentially persuade a "Buy it Now" person from NOT sending a Purchase agreement on the ad as stated

Most people on this site are better versed on how to buy, than several other sites, and I am very thankful for this fact!.

I've only had one issue with a member who PMd me on an item I was selling. Basically told me it wasn't worth what I was asking and told me he wanted it for a lower price.
I declined his low offer. Couple of weeks later I lowered the price a bit and got a
"I'll take it" from another member. Sold it to him, and then the low baller tried to publicly shame me for not selling to him. Other than that guy, every transaction has been flawless. I kinda agree with the public
"I'll take it" I get the question PMs, we all have them. I've lost out a couple of times with questions, no harm, no foul. It happens. Overall it's worked out great.

I NEVER buy or sell anything without an actual conversation on the phone with the individual.
I've been burned twice on this site over the years and it's not going to happen again.
I also request and offer a 3 day inspection time. This way if the item doesn't come up to the standard as it was advertised it can be sent back and all funds returned, whether it is buy or sell.

Just recently I purchased an item from a member that he had requested "public I will take it" and now this morning I see another seller "public I'll take it trumps all PMs"
I honestly don't understand why the "public I'll take it" is requested. Please explain. Any reasoning behind it?

Thank you
Good day,

I prefer to keep my business arrangements private so I avoid public responses. I'll send a PM with the message, price and expected mailing date of the funds.

If it goes to someone else after my PM, so be it. Something else will always come up. It may just take a while.

Have fun,
