I don't get people

30 million + acres of public land here. The public is doing their best to wreck it and lose the privileges of using it but they haven’t yet. Leaving trash, making ruts, burning, ya know, doing public stuff. Just human nature, given time, man will do what he does. Look at our republic.

It isn't limited to public ranges. It's against our private club's rules to post photos on social media but there are rifled slug holes in the 4x4 uprights on the shotgun/muzzleloader range and on the 100 yard range, the dud box is a .30 cal ammo boxes with a hole in the top. Was replaced after the previous one tried to escape and was shot multiple times.

In Dec., 2 board members and one of the usual volunteers were at the club. When 2 of them went up to check the range out and just happen to drive up to the small camping area behind the range, came across a fire that someone had started. It was extremely windy, no fire ring, no one around, leaves blowing across and thru the fire. The only thing that stopped those leaves from burning down the woods was it was really cold and a really hard frost that morning so everything was wet. So we asked the people at the range who was up there and was told that they left about 1/2 hour ago. No one knew who they were. So we checked the videos and couldn't identify their plate because it was so old and beat up we couldn't read it on the video. But the problem is we spent 2 hours putting the fire out and trying to figure out who it was. That was 2 extra hours away from my business and the volunteers business because someone else just doesn't give a shit about their club. I and the others that volunteer our time don't mind doing it but when you have to do it because others don't give a shit. I have a big problem with that!!

The only solution is to pull some shooting friends together, take a pick up out and occasionally clean up the mess. Your place to shoot won’t be there forever if that is allowed to continue.

How would you like to live in a state like mine, Ct. NO PUBLIC RANGES that I know of.
You have to belong to a private club. and you still have the SLOBS.

BUT !!! If their shooting something expensive like .300wsm they'll take their time to pick it up and throw it in the trash ! Instead of leave it on the ground like all the other trash they did , like somone explain that to me!
wish i could. but they may not be the same peeps. the .300 a bolt gun where the rate of fire is low with plenty of pacing time between shots. the other mag dumpers with semi's. i've seen several actually place mt high value brass back in the factory box and leave it on the bench on purpose. have also seen mag dumpers roll out, toss out a cinder block, tv, or wicrowave at 20 meters, and proceed to endanger the entire line.

then (at least to me the only logical explanations) 1. they don't want to wait for the range to go cold, 2. they think they are doing someone else a favor by leaving them a reactive target, 3. they are low class lazy.

i once worked with an old dutchman that had a favorite saying: he lit his pipe, rocked back in his chair, looked over at me and said "now chop house, just remember. if your hat blows off in the wind don't bother to go chase it. some or other fool will always bring it back to you"

trash begets trash. look at the rural roadsides. on the other hand for everyone that is super responsible, there has to be someone equally irresponsible. people is exactly what is wrong with people.

I won’t get on a rant this s morning, but have seen first hand what all describe. Now I am no clean freak germaphobe by any means, but it makes one wonder how some keep up their own places?

I am done fixing, repairing, building new target frames. We have built them out of everything short of railroad track, AND they still manage to tear them up. A sad sad excuse for marksman ship at a gun club.

Funny you should mention railroad track. Thats exactly what we have been starting to use and believe it or not they haven't been able to hurt it!! We have a supplier less than 3 miles from the club. We are working towards all target backer holders to be railroad track.

Private range/club shut down for the day. Off to the public range.
Lower parking lot with a berm and steps up to the shooting line. BLM land.
TRASH all over the place. TVs, old refers, propane bottles and spent shotgun shells about 6" deep at the firing line.
Next day, went back, trash had been pushed over the berm and onto the parking lot. 3 dump truck loads to clean it out.
Couple of days later, new shooting bench just built and now on fire, more trash on the firing line.
New bathroom at the staging area to the BLM land. Some worthless POS with a big 4 X 4 drove over the 6" steel posts cemented in the ground and drove into the new bathroom. And you wonder WHY there's no open range to shoot from anymore.:mad: I DON'T DO the public range anymore. ;)

You wonder how some of these folks live? Look at the trash on the roadsides. Address in the roadside trash? Dump a couple of garbage loads on their front yard along with a bill for the clean up costs. They don't pay it? There ARE ways. ;);)

Give them time. Some folks could tear up an anvil with a rubber hammer, others shouldn’t play with anything sharper than a beach ball.

You are certainly correct but I will have to say some of it has been there for 3 years with no damage! Still hoping and holding my breath.:)

Exactly correct Respect and proper attitude begins at home, with the parents teaching their kids how to behave and be respectful towards others and how they do with trash, etc. Then also the schools should follow the same example and teach kids the same, plus the three R's. instead of the Wook style of living.
Children start learning by watching what the parents do. And they start learning a lot sooner than you think. They will mimic their parents and they do not understand "don't do as I do, do as I say do"

Politicians should learn that too.
