question on "public I will take it"

I send a PM requesting a phone call if I want to purchase it. I want a physical address and a conversation first of all.
If you do this with many of the ads on this site, you will loose the opportunity to get the item, due to another person buying the item while you are waiting for a lot of personal interaction, which a lot of sellers do not want to begin with.

I understand wanting to look a guy in the eye, and getting a firm hand shake on a deal.

Click on the person's name, check their feedback, before a purchase, and forget the issues you mention. Your choice...

Buyers that want a lot of interaction from a seller, may loose out on a lot of "deals", depending on the value of the item of course.

I have had buyers want a phone call, and of course I gave me my phone number, but this often lead to someone posting an "I'll take it" while I was on the phone with the prospective buyer. The person on the phone did not like it when I told them that someone had just bought the item, as they thought that a phone call was putting a hold on the sale, which it does not with me. If I know the person, or have done business with the person on previous occasions, this will be different.

Once a great while, a phone call is like trying to deal with a closer at the Dodge Dealership, but I always try and help.

I give Gold Members on this site preferential treatment, as I have found that we support each other and this site in a major way.

Those posts do tend to be respected with the occasional backstop, “if it falls though then I’ll take it” but who knows as far as the PM’s go. I’ve never been a seller, but I don’t necessarily expect a seller to be bound by a purchase announcement. I imagine that’s why sellers aren’t always uniformly quick to confirm, and may be weighing buyers or offers. (It’s also implicit that a buyer that “takes it” and then decides he can’t afford it, is off the hook, because, what can you do anyway.)

There’s some understandable reasons, as this isn’t truly public like match registrations or buying supplies from Academy; if a seller’s personal friend finally got funds together, or the seller doesn’t trust or like the buyer, or was offered a more advantageous trade or even a higher price, or was receptive to a good repeat buyer, I’d imagine that as often as not, those considerations could prevail.

In general, much like an item in most any store you’ve ever been in, I’ll sell to the first person who presents the posted price. Also, much like stores ought to be allowed to do, I’ll refuse to sell, and see no need to explain myself. As long as money hasn’t changed hands, or an agreement hasn’t been violated, there are no grounds for complaint.

I don't mind losing it if that happens. Someone might get something great because of me, or someone might get something that I find out I really didn't want after the phone call. If there's no communication, I don't want it anyway.

Posting - I'll take it on the listing forum - is an affirmation that one person is stating "I'll buy it" and should shut down other offers immediately . Next, buyer and seller contact each other with payment, shipping, FFL details (if needed). I always post - "I'll take it", so there is no ambiguity. I'm the buyer (or seller) at the cost / description / terms stated. Never an issue for me, so far. 100% follow-through. on my part and others. fwiw.

If I were to sell something and somebody jumped in with "I'll take it" only to drive off other buyers and stall me until they could come up with the funds, I would be pizzed. In 2 of my recent purchases, somebody else jumped the gun and couldn't make good on it.

If it’s something I really want, I’ll post “Seconds” and hope the deal falls apart. Every once in a great while, I get it.

My reputation means more to me then any item, I want to be absolutely sure of zero BS buying or selling.

Folks, under our rules, All sellers are entitled to ALWAYS confirm and chose the buyer to whom the sale will be made. No seller is obligated to sell to the first "I'll take it". This is NOT an auction site or eBay.

A seller may rightly do a background check and conduct other modes of verification. And the location of the proposed purchaser is relevant because of state laws.

Likewise "I'll take it" does NOT settle matters relating to insurance, shipping cost, mode of payment, risk of loss, and packaging. All these things are Material Terms of the Contract which must be resolved BEFORE a deal is done.

Lastly we encourage ALL buyers for an expensive product to have a VOICE PHONE CALL with the seller if the product is more than $100.00. This is important to work out insurance, mode of packing/shipping etc.

Re Phone Calls -- Virtually every person who complained to me about not getting a product he/she paid for had NOT made a voice phone call. Make the call...
