Question for u 6.5 guys??

Make your own out of Lapua Brass, Nosler & Norma brass is available as well.

I just loaded some for my new stick. I took Lapua .308 Win. Palma and re formed it to 6.5 Creedmoor. I'll have to look when I get back to the house but with a 142 SMK -.020 off I think I'm just under 2.880 COAL I'll check and confirm.

The nosler is getting good reports I haven't shot any of mine yet.

260 Ackley Improved. All the benefits of the 6.5-284 in a much more efficient case and better case life.

Glad you said allegedly on that barrel wear. Even better on barrel wear would be the 260. Be hard to wear one out shooting recreationally.

We shoot at a private steel range 350yds out to 1,675yds, and I will also use it at a steel match, they have targets out to 1,820yds.

I'd like to stay away from fireforming if possible, the 6.5x47L is looking good, what velocity are u guys getting with 140gr vld in a 28 inch barrel?

All great choices, I will research all, after reading some replys I might be at a little disadvantage feeding from a magazine

Have gone 260 260AI now 6.5X55 32" Krieger 1-8.5 R5
No brass forming easy to load great 1000 performance.

Just a point Hot Rod 6.5's and short barrel life.

Do some reading on the 6.5saum on snipershide. Sounded too good to be true, but many shooters are seeing up to and over 3000 rounds on a barrel with h1000. Expensive dies, brass can be tough to come by, but there are a lot of positives to the cartridge...

The 6.5x47 is unbetable if you want to shoot 140s out of a short action. You also have the benefit of the small primer pocket. Something the Creedmoor lacks and is its achilies heal.

I have a 6.5 Remington Magnum and it is a very fast cartridge in shorter barrels if you need it to be. With only 52gr of RL17 in a 26" barrel, I push the 140gr VLDs at 3209 fps. No pressure signs at all. I believe that my 6.5 Rem Mag is easily capable of speeds exceeding 3250 fps and possibly flirting with 3300 fps in the 26" barrel if I ever tried to push the pressure limits. But that is not in my future plans because the speeds I get as it is right now are more than adequate for a very flat trajectory at long range.

Recoil is very mild. No need for a brake. With a #5 contour 26" barrel and light sporter hunting stock, it recoils about the same as a 243 or 308 Win. Recoil is so light that my 11 year old son took his first buck using this rifle at 402 yards with a perfect one shot kill.

Ive never shot the rifle from a bench with a rest because it is a hunting rifle. But it shoots phenomenally from field positions. I only develop loads and practice with hunting rifles from the prone position using a bipod. I'm sure the rifle would be much more accurate with a benchrest style stock and bench setup. But as a hunting rifle, it provides me with accuracy that is more than adequate.

The photo below is a 3 shot group that I fired while in the prone position using a Harris 9-13" bipod on a small grass hill from 300 yards.

I've shot 6.5x47L, .260Rem and 6.5SAUM, side by side, out to 1100yds.

The x47L is just a sweet little case, nothing to dislike! Doesn't allow for the greatest feedback when shooting long, though.
The .260 is a workhorse. Easy to like and allows for more impact beyond 800 yds.
The 6.5SAUM is a short action beast, and allows for 2-300fps over the .260. With a high b.c. 130-140gr boolit, that extra MV really becomes evident at distance. The difference in impact on steel is readily apparent.

If the majority of your shooting will be inside of 800, I'd stick with a honey of a 6.5x47L. Enjoy less recoil & phenomenally resilient brass! But if you wanna wear out those plates in the 1,000+ range, a 6.5SAUM allows enough gain in MV to make it a real performer. GAP sells "6.5 4s" brass from Hornady, which is OK. Whidden & Redding make dies, too. I use Redding Type S 7SAUM FL die & seater with no worries...

Good luck!
