Question for Ebay sellers

I bought an item on Ebay and paid the global shipping that ebay put on the item, now the seller is saying Ebay is asking him to pay the shipping before they will send the shipping label.
Now the seller has asked me to pay him the cost of shipping.

Just thought I would ask as I've never come across this before and alarm bells are ringing.

The seller has good feedback on Ebay and on a forum, so I don't think it's the seller, but it sure has the makings of a scam.

I never heard of global shipping. Or Ebay asking for buyer to pay for shipping. all listings have stated shipping cost or seller states shipping included.
initiate a case with Ebay so they can get involved and resolve this.

Sure sounds like a scam.
I would expect all costs to be handled through eBay.

You might want to contact eBay support to have them check it out.

If it were me, I'd want to cancel the order and get my $ back at the same time.

Thanks Lee.
I can't recollect when Ebay introduced the "Global Shipping" option but here goes a link to the details about it.

Ian,

I read the link and under the buyer fees all final shipping cost is paid at the time of check out. per EB
In your listing, the buyer will see estimated shipping and import charges; the full and final charges will be available for them to view at checkout. They can also view what they've been charged on the Order details page.
so, if you bought the item and paid shipping seller can't ask for more money to cover shipping. they don't ship contact EB support. once you do that all communication between you and the seller will be monitored and reviewed.

yeah don't. I would consider reporting this to EB. I have done deals with Asian sellers who requested higher shipping than was advertised on the item page. They agreed to create a new item with the shipping charge and I bought it. I would not agree to pay the seller direct.

With eBay Global Shipping the seller pays the shipping to eBay's Global Shipping center in Kentucky. Seller then ships the item to the Global Shipping center. The Global Shipping Center charges the buyer the shipping, duty, and fees to ship the item from the Global Shipping Center to the buyer. eBay handles all the paperwork. It is a good service if you sell internationally.

Bingo. And to help answer the OPs question even further, when I used it in the past for one of my businesses, those charges are all up front at the time the buyer pays and are clearly listed in the listing. Sellers shouldn't be tacking on post-purchases charges of any kind (and I don't believe they're allowed to even if the shipping ends up being more than the seller agreed to charge at the time of the listing). The OPs seller also shouldn't be getting any 'new charges' from Ebay for the shipping unless there's some kind of new funky business changes over there recently.

I STOPPED selling on Ebay when they wanted to tie my Bank Account # to my Ebay account so they could do a "direct deposit" for selling payments?
NOT IN THIS LIFETIME!
And anything I sold was "shipping included in the selling price". ;)

The explanation I've had back from the seller after they questioned Ebay was that Ebay charge the buyer the freight , then charge the seller the freight and when the Paypal payment clears the seller gets the freight cost refunded.
I've never heard of that before.

This is for international sales correct? Not domestic?

I have noticed that on some things coming out of OTHER Countries, there is mention of will/may be extra charges? No changes/charges so far. ;)

I have almost 4000 positive feedback on eBay, I quit selling on there because of the fees and the structure of payment and shipping that have mentioned on here. I've never had money held but know several that have, I'll list something on there ever now and then just not often. Hope you get everything settled, I'd look to eBay to resolve this as it does smell fishy.

I'd want to confirm with eBay itself.
