Gunbroker -- Suspicious Sale then Relisting

I "bought" a Borden BR rifle on there, penny auction, no reserve. Ends at $1800 or so. I message the seller about payment and he says "Come on man, you know I can't sell it to you for that. This is worth at least double". Doesn't follow through, relists. Contact gunbroker - no help. So all that legal verbiage in their TOS are garbage and unenforceable.

Worst part about it, he's a member on here too.

When I have contacted GB for issues, they have NEVER responded. They win every time an item sells and they collect their fee. They have no incentive to change any practices where they benefit.

Why would you even consider buying from them? Not only all the questionable bidding but latley it seems that is the go to place for the FBI to mine data and start a door to door collection. Force reset triggers, Glock switches. stabilizing braces, all the info about who bought what comes from GB or one of the other sites like GB.

For me I don't bid without asking the seller for his cell number to discuss the gun further. If they are not willing to do that I normally move on. I do the same for any potential buyer. Scammers don't share anything.

Where do you come by your facts (not rumors) re. FBI mining all their data from GB?

Gunbroker can't possibly mediate the hundreds or thousands of interactions. It's not an escrow service, more like a dating site.. Any issues are between the buyer and seller. The only purchases I've made went smoothly because the seller had a huge number of transactions, a great rating, and had a published and verifiable store address and were personable on the phone. I won't even bid on something from marginal sellers. But, I suppose I've just been lucky.

The exact same place I get your pearls of wisdom, the internet. The ATF usually accompanied by a local Sherriff or FBI has been going door to door looking for force rest triggers and solvent traps and many are filming their encounters with the ATF and the agents claim that they are going after theses items based on the records from different people selling on GUN BROKER. I suppose the whole video could be faked but there are so many I rather doubt. I find the videos to be believable, having seen on network news the other things that the ATF has done in the past. You know Like Ruby Ridge where they instigated a fight trying to get someone to do their job for them and ended up killing innocents, and Waco where they pushed a confrontation and used tanks and machine guns on a group of people and burned them to death, then there was fast and furious where to validate one of Obamas and Hilary's lies the let thousands of guns go into Mexico to criminals, then when they violated federal law and formed their own airforce, by buying 90 some OV10 Broncos, a plane only good for strafing people on the ground like you and I. They had one of the OV10s about ten miles from here at the north county regional airport. The director admitted in front of a congressional committee bay before yesterday that against federal law that they do have a gun registry.

I have use it a LOT. I don't like it. prices are crazy. lots of cheating and buddy bids. Gunsinternational is five times better. and this site is much better.

I to have had trouble getting them to ever respond to anything.

I am evidently way more old fashioned than the rest of you guys. I have never once thought of buying a rifle or accessory that I have not actually held in my hand worked the action and closely examined.

Is Gunsinternational a better alternative to GB ? What is the general consensus here?
I like Gunbroker best out of all of them. Given, though, that you always have to be careful. I had a funny situation the last time I bought there. I was looking for a Winchester M70 in 308. I found 2 guns I liked. One had a “Buy now” price of $950. The other one was at $600, so I bid up to $950. Similar guns, seemed logical. When I checked the gun I bid on, an hour before closing, it was up to $1800! I bought the other at the “buy now” price and received it 5 days later. No problems. Why did the other gun go to $1800? No idea! The one I bought for $950 is cosmetically perfect and the bore looks almost new.

A lot of auctions go for silly prices, human nature I suppose to let one’s competitive nature get the best out them or their ego. A little bit of shopping when on gunbroker can be worth a person’s time but evidently there are people who get tunnel vision and fixated on the prize.

I’ve never had a problem on GB. I try and buy from guys with history and positive feedback but if a firearm pops up I want and the price is right I will simply reach out and ask to have a conversation about the said firearm. There have been a couple of times I backed off because things didn’t seem right but the flip side to that is I’ve also landed a few rifles I’ve looked for years at a reasonable or even much less the item was worth. I picked up a Tikka Master sporter in 222 last year at a much reduced price on a buy it now listing. The guy had zero feedback and the rifle was pristine. A few questions with the seller and I sealed the deal. I think I have a little less than 300 transactions on GB and have never been burned. Had a couple items come that were nit as described and the seller made it right.

Did the $1800 rifle get relisted? So many times I've seen guns bid up, listed as sold, then relisted by the original seller. From my view, GB is shill bidder city.

Dale…I didn’t look. I was so screen blind at that point I put it away.
