Public Gun Range Amazement

Just got thru building eight target frames for our range. 2' x 2.5'. Kind of hid them in the dark corner so we could use them for sight-in days. Someone grabbed two of them to use. One already has holes in the top 1x4. Not a bad group mind you, but it looks like they stapled the target to the top part of the frame, then shot high. The other has a hole in the bottom 1x4
It was suggested to stencil "do not shoot" on the target frame, but told them it would be like throwing gas on a fire.
 
I have a private range way out in the sticks. Shoot by invitation only. I do all the maintenance by myself. There is no charge to shoot, and therefore no implied obligation to be asked back. In 15 years I've only had one unsafe incident. I accepted responsibility for that one because I wasn't watching the lone shooter and he made a mistake. Now if a friend or friends are shooting I don't. It takes diligence to stay safe! Oh, ARs are welcome, one shot in the mag only.

I saw a guy shooting a pistol with a trigger-actuated laser.I guess he was having trouble seeing the dot at 12 yds, as he stopped mid-string, put his weak hand in front of the muzzle and squeezed the trigger. No shot, but I guess he satisfied himself, as we went right back to finishing his string.
 
We have had some people that would actually aim for the wind tape we would put on the frames of our gong holders and some bring out the big guns and shoot the small gongs to see if they could get them to fall on the ground, but would they go out and put them back up??? Noooo!!!

It is part of the disgusting society we have need reduced to. It will only get worse. Raise the rates, that will get rid of some. Stop the daily fee shooting 100 percent. Members only will help some.

I went to our range yesterday to work on some match loads for next year. It's a private club but has a large membership. Yesterday was a very nice, unseasonably warm and sunny day.

I actually left soon after I got there and set up. It was just packed with people. I saw so much carelessness and poor gun handing, and people who didn't know what they were doing. Much fumbling especially with AR15 style guns.

We have a stellar safety record. Sometimes I wonder how that's possible!

And another thing, not one person was wearing a mask including me (that's just fine as far as I'm concerned) yet in the gravel parking area I saw several masks that people had thrown on the ground apparently as they got in their vehicle to leave. With a trash can about three steps away.
 
As one of the range maintenance guys at our club, I take responsibility for keeping steel up and in good condition on our silhouette range. These two 18" gongs are at 100 yds. and are quite popular. These are the second set installed. I put these up new about 30 days ago. 3/8"ths. AR500 @ $200. ea. Mag dumpers love them. So far, no AP damage. Just like the last set sooner or later holes will appear.

Reduce those gong sizes to 3" or less. They'll last a lot longer.
