primers falling out of brass ?????????

I believe it was Glen Zediker, in his superb book "reloading for competition" stated something to the effect that "only high power shooters will spend $2000 on a match-grade rifle and then dumpster dive for brass..."

If in doubt, throw it out. Cost of new brass is much less than living with a serious injury due to case head separation or the like.

Were you picking up brass I left at the range? ::)

That brass has been either loaded many times and the primer pockets have finally given up, or it has been fired a few times at very high pressures and the primer pockets have expanded. This is one of the reasons that we hand prime. You can feel when the pockets are getting loose and segregate it into a practice or club match pile. If you know you have a batch that is loose a lot of guys will leave it on the ground. Then someone comes along and picks it up and gets what you got.

This is how shooters, particularly long range shooters who load very hot lose brass.

The brass laying around a range, in my opinion, is exactly where it belongs....on the ground. (Garbage can in the end).
If that's where it came from it's anyones guess what was done to it. Someone who shot it left it so that would be my first indication that it' not for me.

I used to run my old .308 brass one last time through a gas gun just for plinking before I discarded it by leaving it where it landed. Then I realized that somebody could be picking up this thoroughly worn out, but super shiny (SS media) brass thinking its once fired and reloading it. I did not want that on my conscience so now I pick it all up and take it home.

It might not be his brass causing the problem. I have Lapua brass that I bought new so I know how hot and how many times it's been reloaded. I usually use CCI BR2's but because of the shortage I had to buy some Winchester primers. When priming last night I noticed some were going in really loose. My first thought was the brass but I removed the loose Winchester primers and tried CCI's they went in snug as a bug in a rug.

What I'm saying is QC on the Winchester primers sucks.

Finally got some cci large primers . Took apart the ones that I used the winchester primers in and didn't have any issues with lose primers . I'm gonna just go with Winchester primers are a poor quality primer !!!!!

Winchester began moving their plant from Alton, IL to Oxford, MS in 2010, and I don't think it's been as good since then.

This is why i no longer buy Win. New employees, new equipment. Not paying for there mistakes while learning.

I used to use Winchester primers but since I tried Fed Match I haven't went back! CCI BR are not very accessible here.
