Have 1x fired 300WSM Federal brass and winchester magnum primers. The primers will fall out if you tap the case on the table. Never had this happen.
Is it possible the primers are out of spec? Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? SHould I get a new brand of primers, or toss the brass?
When you installed primers back into the brass were they snug going in?
In any event, you'll want to replace the brass regardless if it was caused by hot loads or excessive head space due to over sizing because gas leakage by the primer will start etching your bolt face and you don't want that.
Naturally, the root cause of the problem need to be identified.
The UNplated (brass color) WLR & WLRM primers I have fit loose in good, new primer pockets.
It must be because Winchester forgot that the plating they left off adds diameter to any product.
Presently I am using them up however lets see how this shakes out.
HTH,
You'd think they had figured that out by now.It must be because Winchester forgot that the plating they left off adds diameter to any product.

Primer pocket is a tough bugger to get an accurate measurement, but with my calipers, it's 0.210...same as the winchester primers. According to Federal, 0.210 is the nominal primer diameter. I'm thinking the primer is out of spec.
Emailed Winchester to see what their spec is on the primer.

HTH,
If the de priming pin is adjusted too long it pushes the primer hole out the bottom of the case and that will make your primers loose. LarryPlease advise how to mess up a primer pocket with the pin. Love to learn something new.
That and a CNC milling machine and the world's your oyster.Really nice to have a lathe,....
Thanks! Looks like the primers are out of spec. Didn't get a chance to push the Fed primers in this weekend...but soon. The primer dimension is .2103"to /2120"
One of my mic's read .2100" on a WLR unplated primer the other mic read .2101".
I had the same problem except it didn't make a differents on make of brass. I was going to toss brass but then I measured the primers. my cci mag primers were a little bigger so I tried them in cases I was going to toss and guess what they went real tight. I measured all my different primers and cci were a hair bigger so no more Winchesters for me!Have 1x fired 300WSM Federal brass and winchester magnum primers. I think that the original application for super glue was for the use of putting primers back in cases.Have 1x fired 300WSM Federal brass and winchester magnum primers. The primers will fall out if you tap the case on the table. Never had this happen.
