Primers stand proud ??

You are saying anvil but do you mean the top portion of the primer?

No - on my calipers, I have the headspace gauge on one blade and a flat anvil on the opposing blade. When the brass is in between the gauge and the anvil, a sliver of light can be seen between the case head and the flat anvil because the primer is protruding.

That's... really not the takeaway you should getting here

Unfortunately, I have contractors working in the house right now and don't have access to my reloading equipment. Measuring the primers and the pockets would provide some insight as to the best direction for me to go. I agree that the 450 primers should fit properly.

FWIW - this brass has been loaded previously but I (apparently) didn't notice the slight protrusion.

Thank you all for all the insightful info. I just put the PMA Alpha case cutter tool and drive adapter on my "Wish List". Hopefully it will be available soon. I've got Alpha 6 Dasher brass too, so the tool will see plenty of use for cleaning up pockets once they are uniformed.

Load one of the primers in a case (any case) and fire it. Remove the primer and measure the height without the anvil. Then measure your Alpha case primer pocket depth. This should tell you whether you are actually fully seating the primers in the Alpha brass.

I've got some new Alpha SRP brass in 22 Creedmoor. The pockets are too narrow for my Sinclair pocket uniformer tool to fit without force, so I skipped this step. I loaded all the brass with CCI 450 primers and could easily feel them hit the bottom of the pocket.
While loading up some Berger 85.5 Hybrids, I noticed that the anvil on my calipers revealed a slight amount of light between the anvil and the case head. The primer was protruding ever so slightly. I tried to seat the primer deeper, but it was definitely on the bottom. A quick check of the remainder of the primed cases all had primers that were slightly protruding, maybe just .001"

Has anyone else ever noticed this? Is it more likely the brass or the primers?

Solution?
ITS THE BRASS/PRIMER POCKETS ! Pockets MUST be uniformed. J M E

My calipers are just average in quality and my methods may not be precise, but I measured the pockets on some once fired Alpha cases (6 Dasher) and then measured the height of new CCI 450 primers. Interestingly enough, they both measured .120". My 22 Creed brass is loaded so I'll have to wait to see if the pockets on these cases are different.

You ain’t seen proud until the primer is so proud the case won’t come out of the priming tool case holder. My experience. Only got it out by squeezing the priming tool handle so hard it risk breaking it off.

When You uniform the pockets, You will see brass is taken of the pocket sides and bottom.

I paid My money in good faith expecting to get a good usable product, consistent with other products already on the market. I didn’t create a problem that didn’t exist before because the brass didn’t exist before. I have no reason to post false witness against any product, only to relate My honest experience.

If anyone wants to suggest that I am bearing false witness, spreading trouble where it doesn’t exist, or lying…THEN LET THE DISCUSSION BEGIN

I've been using the Sinclair lg & sm pocket uniformers for many years. I have never seen any brass removed from the side of a pocket. The uniformers are only designed to uniform the depth; aren't they?

What product are you referring to above and what did it fail to do that's got you all riled up?

Don’t have a .22 Creedmoor. Don’t understand why we have to change things so you have to match primers and brass.

Not riled at You Charlie, I’m riled at the same brass company that You are having issues with, only mine seem to be worse. And Mine is with 6mm BRA. brass. Always used Lapua Brass and never had to uniform primer pockets. So I had to buy a RCBS Fixed primer pocket uniformer. It is a perfect fit for Lapua pockets. It took brass off all the way in on the cases in question. And it didn’t go easily.

There are several other threads addressing the brass in question and I am mindful of all of them, not just yours, and for that I apologize.

See thread on Main Message Board “step in bottom of primer pockets”.

@Charlie-NY I use the PMA one below for mine, it works wonderful with Alpha brass and won't marr the case head either. I just use it by hand as is. It cleans them up and CCI450's seat perfectly after.

This one cleans up the sides if needed, some it takes a little off, others none. Mostly gets depth uniform. Over 100 cases very little was removed and primers seated perfectly. Mostly of three lots of brass one was in definite need of attention.
"PMA Lapua Small Primer Pocket Ultimate Uniformer (Solid 1/2" Carbide)"

My original one was (below), digs in to sides something terrible and marrs the case head while getting depth correct. I have zero use for it.

No - I am seating by feel but can easily feel the primer hit bottom. Additional seating pressure doesn't change primer depth. Using more force would actually affect primer dimensions/shape.
Ok , just had to ask because I am new to the world of adjustable primer seaters.... It has fooled me in the past because it will feel like it's bottom out but the seater was out of adjustment.... If I hadn't bought it I would say it's pretty much a problem looking for a solution.... But it's a problem looking for a solution in my opinion.... Seating by feel works just fine.... A ton of these new toys only effect the people that can actually shoot well enough their looking for that tiny bit better... In my opinion they have no effect on anything but your wallet... I have a box full of the latest and greatest and still use my old school stuff...

Edit , just adding , these aren't crimped brass right...

Then the answer, as others have stated, is a primer pocket uniformer as others have stated. I've found this condition in new brass before.
