Pretty Stocks

Doan Trevor does beautiful hand crafted work. Mainly for us sling shooters and the F classes. Check out his work @ doantrevor.com

That said here is a pretty nice piece of Turkish walnut that I recently shortened up and refinished.

Josh, what's the legal term for the vertical striping on the left side of that last stock? My No. 1 25-06 has some of that. It looks almost like a lenticular image in that it seems to dance and change depth when you look at it from a different angle...
It’s just Tiger striping in my head. Wikipedia says : “undulating chatoyant pattern,”
I didn’t make it through college so you need to look up chatoyant.
Picture a series of waves from the side and chop off the tops. That’s the grain pattern you’re seeing in the wood. Put a clear coat on it and light refracts differently as the grain changes. Guys that paint cars use flip flop to get a similar effect. Girls like diamonds.

This thread makes me feel like I just walked out of the Kriegoff or Perazzi building at the Grand American! Those are some beautiful stocks!!!
