New 22 rifle, looking for a nice sporterstyle.

Just ran across another that might pique your interest

Austrian made - Steyr Mannlicher Zephyr .22LR, also available in full stock if you want to go full tilt Euro look

My top choice would be the Remington 541. It is the zenith of good old style American looks and most are very accurate to boot. The Savage Anschutz sporters would be my second choice. More European in looks but also very accurate.

Something classic would be a Krico or a BRNO. I've had multitude of this rimefires, I used to sell them, trade them, keep them, then I just sold them all. Kept my Kimber's and my Anschutz

To be a bit more fair to the Cooper & Kimber rifles I purchased - I bought them off an online auction site (not GB), and paid what I think were near premium prices for both. Had I been in the position to find similar rifles owned by individuals that I'd had the chance to meet in person, and either seen actual targets they'd shot with their rifles, or better yet, had the opportunity to shoot with some known good lots of SK, Lapua, or RWS, I'd have likely been able to purchase one of each brand that would've been very satisfying to own. There are too many Cooper & Kimber owners out there who've got nothing but nice things to say about their rifles to think that the majority of these beautiful rifles are for looks only....

Still, after the good experience with the very nice 1712 - which needed only minor adjustment of the trigger and snugging of the action screws to satisfy my needs/requirements/standards - it didn't take that long for me to find & purchase a much older Savage-Anschutz 54 sporter that I'm happy with. I am still looking for a trigger spring that will allow me to tune the trigger break from 3lbs down to 1 to 1-1/2lbs. I mounted a very nice used Leupold VX3-4.5-14x40 scope on it with Warne rings, and am looking forward to getting through spring planting/spraying work so I'll have time to work more with this sweety...

I've owned a couple Kimbers and they didn't impress me accuracy wise. The Coopers I've had were well made and had beautiful wood, but a 54 actioned Anschutz would be my favorite sporter. I've owned several and all were fantastic shooters.

Surprised no-one suggested a CZ 457. Plenty of models like the Premium, Lux, Varmint, Royal that have beautiful wood and I've yet to meet a 457 that didn't shoot. I personally have a Varmint MTR and it consistently matches up to or out shoots all the tricked out Vudoos or Annies on the line. You probably wouldn't like the stock of an MTR (or the weight) but definitely one of the better off the shelf accurate .22's you'll buy.

Edit: Sorry, missed where you said you owned several of those already.

Yes sold a 453 what a dope am I...............

Sounds like you like fine rifles with nice wood. A 541 would be a good addition but it lacks the wood you want. There are some nice 541 rifles out there but it will take a search. You might be satisfied with the 500 gun run by lew horton of the maple stocked 541 sporter and Target heavy barrel rifles, they are lookers. You will probably pay 2k for a nice one. I will throw this suggestion out there seek out a Browning A Bolt Gold Medallion awesome wood on these, tho they might not shoot as good as a anschutz cooper or Kimber. If you want to go all the way a 40X sporter with magazine, would be the way to go if money is no object. I think they only made 750 of these . They made these in the Remington custom shop. They also made these in a single shot version sporter . Also look for a Dakota sporter. I always liked the hunt for an addition to my collection. Just my two cents, YMMV

I neglected to add there is a beautiful cooper JSR on rimfire central in the classifieds section. The seller is reducing his collection . He is a great guy the rifle is 3775.00 dollars.
