Press pros and cons.

I recently purchased a MEC Marksman and the stand. I don't like the height of the stand and since I do not deprime with it I mounted it directly to my bench. I have been using it to FL size with a Redding NB FL sizer and seat bullets with a Redding Competition Seater. I an very impressed with its ability to make reloads that have less than .002" T.I.R. runout (most are less than .001" T.I.R. runout). It is a well made piece of iron.

I have 2 T-7's and have loaded many thousands of rounds on them and I can honestly say I have never had a primer not go in the tube and end up on the floor. one time I did let the tube fill up too much and had the spent primers kind of jam up in the ram but that was my fault for not keeping an eye on it and emptying it, it would 1000's of primers. A simple wire was used to un jam it and empty them.

Thinking about getting a new single stage press. I currently have a Redding Boss, it does everything extremely well, including spitting expended primers all over my basement. I've pretty well narrowed my new selections to Redding T-7, Redding Big Boss II and the new RCBS Rebel. Some reviews on the Reddings claim that expended primers go out through the hollow ram and are expended out the bottom of the hollow ram. Other reviews I've read say that is only partially true, saying that they are expended through a tube attached to the ram an some/many of the primers still end up being scattered about. The one review I've been able to find on the new RCBS press says expended primers are expended out the bottom of the ram into a vessel below. Any opinions about any of the selections I've mentioned from the members will be greatly appreciated, thanks to all that reply.
Hey everyone, I have a redding big boss ll and it is a beast of a press guys and there's no cons for sure period this press is solid ,tight ram to frame , and you can easily resize even the big mag casings

I didn't read every response so forgive me if this has been offered up.

The Frankford Arsenal hand de-primer saves me lots of time. I've I've used it for 223, 6.8 , 243 and 280. I knock out primers, tumble in soapy water then start the process.

Dillon 550c.... I just can't go back to a single stage... Still have my chucker mounted on my bench.... I even recently went progressive for my shotshell reloading.... Mec 9000gn on that one.... Love my progressive stuff.. the learning curve is a little tougher because you have to learn to tune and fine tune them but once set you can make some nice ammo without taking an hour...

Ditto on the older rock chucker with the plastic snap on primer catcher. Don't have that part? RCBS does.

So far for the easiest for me, And least problematic dedicated de priming press I have ever used is this Lyman cheapy, 99% of the primers end up in the cup, the only time they over shoot is when the primers require considerably more force than normal. It is ok for seating or neck sizing really easy access to the shell holder, I have a few other presses in my collection, Should off some of them

I hope no one has lost sight of what a good press is supposed to accomplish. A broom or vacuum will take care of randomly distributed primers on the floor while it won’t correct what a flexing press will do for or against head space. I mean you don’t want a press that flexes and is not consistent in the finished product.

I know this is far from what you are considering.... but this has worked very well for me. So maybe it's worth a pivot from your current plans since you already have a single stage capable of making match grade ammo.

I do my de priming and resizing (for bulk non match ammo) on the Lee APP. It auto feeds cases, auto ejects cases and catches all primers in a bottle. I use a dedicated decapping die that sits in the press 90% of the time.

When I get home from the range, I throw the brass in the feeder bowl (for lack of a better term), and have at it. I'm done in about 5 minutes and then all the cases go in the tumbler. I also use it for bulk processing 223 ammo and bulk sizing cast bullets.

Not my app, but a version like I use

Dang it! Why do I always get tricked into replying to a 3 year old thread where the OP has probably bought all kinds of new gear since then!

Hey it's always nice to go back to an old thread.... The op may not see it but everyone else interested learns something new... If I wasn't bored I wouldn't be here now...lol.... When old primers hit the floor my wife's vacuum gets put to a loud test....

The Forster COAX does it all, but especially no decapped primers on the floor. Yes, it is expensive, Yes, you need to use Forster die locking rings, yes it is a bit awkward because the handle travel is significant. But it is a dream to use, easy, accurate and smooth. Set the dies up once and you are done.
I picked up a short handle for the cost to ship it to me and it works great!

# me too  I am now in firm belief this is someones giggle.... see how many of us they can catch

A few years back I bought a primer catcher from Form member "The German" It was 3D printed to fit my RCBS Jr2 and I must say no primers hit my floors. I hope this helps. My COAX dosent do dirty work but is amazing at it.
