I've used the Lee Classic Cast Press for years. It has handled my loading needs perfectly and has given no real problems. The only thing that bothered me was the likelihood that about half the spent primers would pop out the side-slot on the ram rather than make the trip down the hollow ram and into the rather ingenious tube that should empty into a jar or trash can. Those pesky primers would bounce around and exit the slot to end up on the floor of my loading area. It finally dawned on me that there might be a cure.
Running the ram all the way up, I carefully and thoroughly cleaned the slot of any residue or lubrication, I pressed some plain old modeling clay into the slot. Lowering the ram scraped any excess clay off of the outside of the ram for a perfect contour and a couple wraps of electrical tape finished off the part of the ram that extends above the frame when fully in the 'down' position. No more flying primers! The spent primers have no other place to go than down the ram and through the tube. The clay 'air-dries' and hardens somewhat. So far, at the 200 cases mark I have had no 'lost' spent primers. Once I'm sure this works to my satisfaction I will replace the clay with something a little more permanent; maybe JB or something similar.
