Prescription glasses with Transitions lenses....

I have transitional lenses (no line bi-focals) on both pairs of glasses, a regular pair that has the light sensitive lenses and a yellow pair that I wear on cloudy days. I've never had a problem with short range 100-300 yrds.

That's why I went with the single vision glasses as suggested by the Doctor. We actually tried this out on the floor of his office using bifocals and my neck gave out before I could achieve any degree of a comfortable position. Single vision is not the best solution but it's better than struggling with bi- or trifocals. I guess you could say it's a compromise no matter which direction you try to head towards. Finding a great doctor can be the best start.
single vision is the way to go I have no issues seeing through the scope no matter what condition is at hand, saved me from quitting shooting altogether

I've used transition lens since the early 80's and progressive transition lens since the 90's. In dim lighting conditions I use yellow tinted progressive lens with good results. When shooting black powder silhouette I measured the distance between the front and rear sights and had the eye doctor adjust my progressive prescription so that my focus on the front sight was spot on (necessary for iron sights). I have never tried specialty after market optics and have no opinion on their quality.

For whatever it is worth, I use a clear lens with my distance prescription. I use DECOT shooting glasses and they can grind the lenses specifically for your rifle head position. I am sure there are other good companies out there that can do that for you, but I have used DECOT for many years with lenses specifically set up specifically for each of my three favorite sports - pistol, shotgun and rifle. For rifle I use clear lenses to let as much light in as possible and then wear a shooting hat to provide protection against unwanted light and glare - others I know use side "blinders" on their glasses.

Hope that helps,

Good luck!

John

I have spent a lot of money over the years trying to solve these exact issues. I finally settled on a pair of Knoblock shooting glasses with my rx put into the lense frames. Now have the ability to place center of lense exactly where it is needed. Also have 4 different color filters that snap onto lense holders for various light conditions. I position the right lense for shooting and the left for the spotting scope.

Google "Morgan Optical" in Olean, NY. Talk to Wayne and have a fat wallet. You can't go wrong.
