WIND is the deal here in Central Montana. Don't know how many times I've set up at the range hoping to crono some loads, shoot some groups...get something accomplished.
Only to set up and just as I'm ready to shoot...here comes the GUSTS. So tired of having to WEIGH down my old Oehler screen array with a 10# lead weight attached to a string I attach to the screen tube.

Throw in low temps, silly high wind gusts and mirage off of the snow on the ground and Winter shooting is tough out here. I've been trying to get a decent Range day since the end of December.

I feel your pain ! Like I said the wind was just so dam annoying in all aspects. Kept blowing and tearing my targets partially off the cardboard, the wind gusts were shaking my hold and pushing me off target, the small snow dust funnel clouds hazing over the target.... at least the gusts would come and go so I did have some luck at shooting "in between" the heavy gusts. I have a new found respect for military and hunters alike who scoff at the crippling winter conditions and can still pull off accurate long range shots in those conditions !

I think you gained alot from your outing. I had a day of shooting scheduled with a friend several years ago and the wind was forecasted for severe and we decided to go anyway. We learned alot from the struggle to hit anything in it. Never a waste if you look at the right way.
