preferred gun cases

I finished reading all comments and just don’t understand I guess, I’m almost 60 years old I have a pelican case for each rifle, I don’t know exactly but I have to be 60lbs over weight and I can easily and I mean easily pack a pelican in each hand up the stairs to the line with no issues at all. Each case has my rifle, scope, heat shield and dedicated cleaning rod and bore guide in it. There’s too many thousands of dollars in each case for me to trust to just about anything but a pelican. I have 6 for competition rifles and two for Hunting rifles.

Midway has the Pelican 1750 model for about $203 now. Is that a good deal?https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2401135787

You are a lucky man. I am ten years older than you and have had to date 8 lumbar surgeries with 10 screws 2 rods and a support plate holding my lumbar spine together. Right hip needs to be replaced, both knees are worn out because of being out of alinement for about 15 years, last Feb I had major abdominal surgery and over the years a few minor repairs made. My Pelican cases way about 15lbs. more than I'm supposed to lift with out my rifles being in them and I don't know any Supras to carry my stuff, so I use the lighter Plano cases to cut down the weight.

which do you guys prefer a soft or hard gun case primarily for trips to the range ?
Creedmoor Sports makes very nice soft cases that are made in The United States of America! I have no financial interest in the company just a long time customer.

I have SKB cases for my rifles with the Wheeler LRB stocks and they are great cases but sometimes room can be an issue. Before nationals, I purchased two of these in the 51" length. My 4" wide rifles measure 49" and 50" long and fit fine in these. I bet they would work with at least 5" and possibly 6" wide rifles. Both rifles took up less space than one in a hard case would have, and these cases are American made!

Dave.
Hi Dave,

Do you have a link to these SKB cases, when I google it only comes up with hard cases. Thanks...

Anyone have insight on pelican 1750 vs 3300?
Storm Cases came up as a competitor to Pelican: Peli was based in Orange County, CA, while Storm was out on the east coast. At some point in the last ten years, Pelican bought out Storm, slapped the Pelican name on their stuff, but didn't change anything else. I have a Storm im3200 for my ISSF rifle, and used it when I was still flying to matches on the regular.

Both are fine product lines, but I tend to prefer the Storm cases (3100, 3200, 3300) over the Pelican equivalents for the following reasons:
--Nicer latches, and more of them (6 instead of 4), including a latch at each end.
--Just a bit more space on the inside (~0.5" on two dimensions)
--Significantly better wheels.

Certainly nothing wrong with an original Pelican, but if they're the same price (and they often are) I'll always recommend the Storm.

I probably wasn’t clear. I have SKB hard cases but when room is tight, I use these soft cases.

I have been using these cases for over 30 years and many airline trips. Only change is I use 4 padlocks instead of the single lock bar.

Aluminum gun cases

Easy to make airline weight limits with 2 match rifles, optics and accessories inside.

champions choice does have airglides for $58. i spoke with them last week about shipping, which unfortunately was quoted at $34 each to go 115 miles mid-TN to no-AL. insane. i could bop up and retrieve in person, then there would be the issue of TN sales tax.
I talked to CC today also about the air-glide. Saleswoman said they are boxed 2 to a box as they get them, so if you need two this will help on shipping some. She said it will still probably be in $40-50 range to me and won’t know till it’s shipped.

Soft cases: with MINIMUM 3/4”-1 1/4” padding per side. Great for to/from range; enroute to PDing as we have a horizontal “stacking” rack. Definitely a hard case with airline travel....no matter where and how far.

Went to a precision rifle class this weekend. AFAIK no one brought their work guns, all personally owned stuff.

16 people including instructors, a few more guns than that. Lotta soft cases of all sorts. Three hard cases that I noticed. Two of the Vaults (one mine, one identical to it) and one Hardigg case (metal latches) similar in size to a 3300 but different.

I think Hardigg also got bought by Pelican, so since it's new I should have figured out who owned it and asked where it came from as I don't see these around anymore so much.

Anyone have a hard-soft case? For my SBR I have a SERT 36". They were just down the street from me. I've only been to the range so I cannot give a good assessment on how much punishment it can take. I do like it though, much better than the Condor or Midway cases - ain't cheap. https://sert.us/collections/rifle-bags-cases
I also have the Peak Case cut for my LH Tikka T3x TAc A1, solid but heavy - 22lbs. Every review I found gave it a high rating.

Dunno where the cutoff is, but I guess my Grey Ghost rifle case counts. It's soft to me, but has rigid liners so you can't like fold it in half, it is the shape it is.

I LOVE this case, and know many others who have it (also, super duper low profile, not a gun case if you avoid I AM A GUN patches), but unlike the SERT (which I have never heard of, but just forwarded to several friends) it is one length. I can do most of my guns in it, but only folded, removing suppressors, etc. More a carbine than a rifle case.

I go to hard case when in the truck bed as the extra foam and waterproofing makes me happy, but will carry anything in the GG case anywhere else at all.
