preferred gun cases

Another Plano Airglide fan.
I like the fact the muzzle end is lower (to help drain any solvent if you cleaned at the range.) And importantly there is no side compression loading on the scope.

These are for range trips. For airline flights you want something thicker and heavier. Also the airglide may not be long enough for F class and Palma rigs that have 29 to 32 inch barrels.

My 6BR with 27” bbl, no brake, no tuner, fits with about 1.5“ to spare.

Sadly, Plano has stopped production we believe. If you find one, grab it.

It depends on what car/truck I drive that day. My 30" barrels won't fit in a Subaru without folding the rear seat down and a hard case is a no go, plus they aren't covered if someone looks in the vehicle as far as theft goes if I have to make stops. In a truck I mostly opt for hard cases because I have the space which is covered. At my shotgun range some guys have the roll out locking drawer set ups in the back of their trucks that hold $20K plus Perazzi's , some are super plus and look like a casket I would be proud to be buried in.

which do you guys prefer a soft or hard gun case primarily for trips to the range ?
I use the Plano gun guard double scoped rifle case and just put one gun in them. I have 3 or 4 and just cycle the guns I’m taking to the range that day into them.

I really like the soft cases from Midway. I have a bunch of them. I do have one of the big planos with wheels, but it is a PITA to lug around. Also, the pick and pull foam means it is dedicated to one particular rifle.

I use the Pelican cases, way to much invested in scopes and guns to work about being to heavy.
My pelicans have wheels on them. Helps with the weight but protects.
My Pelicans have wheels also but from my truck to the firing line is gravel so it becomes a drag or a carry to bench and when the case weighs twice as much as the rifle it is a heavy load, so I use the lighter Plano.
If I could afford an electric cart then it wouldn't matter.

My prize wood stock 6br is in a champion choice.
I rarely take it out of the truck just remove rifle.

My prize McMillan stock 30br is in Plano air glide.

The soft case would have been a mess in the rain and mud we found ourselves in last weekend.
The hard case cleaned up quickly.
But Plano air are hard to find now.
Chanpions Choice showed 58 in stock ??

They're still available on Amazon but at a higher price and than what I think we all paid previously.

Mostly in soft cases in the back seat of my car that is covered in a very nice yoga blanket. If I was throwing them in the back of a pickup, I would go hard cases for sure.

Works great until the hard stop that makes it slide off onto the floor and then good-bye scope.

Not the way I stack them. And if my rifle in a padded case, can't withstand a 12" roll to the floor, I either have the wrong scope or mounts.

Both . I've got Bald Eagle soft cases for daily usage for both the TR .308 , and Open rifles , and two Plano hard cases for air travel .

That's what the baby carrier strap on top of the seat is for ....a lanyard with a snap through the handles.
Gotta keep those babies safe ya-know !

Soft cases for trips to the range. For airline travel, I just purchased an Eyler hard side. What a good surprise, it is built like a tank!

Have used air glides for hunting rifles for years, still have some. But some of my rifles will only fit in longer wheeled hard cases. Have Boyt's and some aluminum single and double and a couple Plano. The Plano are what I usually put suppressed hunting rifles in now, even for out of state trips. Main issue is making sure the foam isn't compressed hard on scope turrets. That's where the air glides are slick.
