Precision Air Rifles

Air gun moderators do have some type of baffle system in them! Some are just hair curlers with foam, others are K baffles some are cones, Look at Wolf Air gun's they sell all kinds of cans!

Yeah I can’t get the LabRadar to pick up unless it’s with radar only or the airgun mic trigger in a very quiet place.

But since you have it, a good way to tell how tight the pellet is rotating (No wobble) is to calculate BC using near and downrange LabRadar data. I’ve found one pellet actually outperforms the published bc in one of my guns. Most pellets underperform the published BC in my airguns and I don’t waste time testing them at long range at all. A lot of shooters just compare published BC and never measure their own data. Dangerous assumption. For longer range (50y+) that’s really helpful to know.
I use my Lab Radar v with the JKL external trigger, never had an issue with the pellet gun.

Speaking about air gun precision, I put a tuner on my Diana 54 and shot a series of target this evening with the tuner on for the first time. All I can say is, amazing.
Im in the process of fabricating a tuner mount that i can still put the silencer on. Making all 3 of those threads concentric is proving harder than i thought it would

Good compressors are getting cheaper all the time.
The hand pump I bought works well... but it's slow and takes some serious physical effort. Airguns of Arizona has a 75 lb carbon fiber Omega tank on sale for $530 (Omega 75 lb Tank) that I've been looking at. No idea how many full-power shots or bottle fills on my FX Impact M3 that translates to... but that's what I've been leaning towards. I have a paintball outfit within easy driving distance, so getting it filled shouldn't be a problem.

But this Rovair compressor linked by Dusty is slightly cheaper, and might work just as well, or better. Having both a tank and compressor would obviously be the best solution. But between the two, any opinions on which would be preferable?

There’s a guy in CA that sells tanks. Joe Broncatta or something like that. I think it is air tanks dot com. If u have a local dive shop they may have a used tank or even a rental.

I prefer to fill the gun from a bottle myself, no particular reason other than i feel its better control so i dont blow a rupture disk and less time its actually hooked up to the gun. Omega makes a very small bottle you can get if you dont want to spring for a big one to go along with your compressor.

I am just getting going with PCP air rifles. Shot my first one yesterday at the local shop. A 22 caliber FX Panthera with an FX 6-36X scope. I forgot to bring my glasses, still adjusting to Cataract surgery from six months ago. At 25 yards the fourteen shot group was about .700". Shop owner tells me it was a good start. I got a bad feeling one of these is in my near future... $2K for the rifle, and whatever I can spring for in a scope. I like the idea of being able to shoot in my garage 365.

Just a word of warning... it's a rabbit hole. Some of the guys here tried to warn me... but I didn't listen. A starting-from-scratch PCP setup ain't cheap.

But the money part of it aside, I'm enjoying it immensely. Shifting the pressure curve via the regulator settings on a PCP gun has a clear analogue with what we do at the handloading bench (while underlining how incredibly terrific it is having all those little brass bottles filled with pressure-making smokeless powder in our conventional guns). And it's hard to overstate how liberating it is just being able to grab the gun, shoot it, and put it away. Ear protection isn't a thing. Cleaning the gun afterwards isn't a thing. And wondering how the noise might be affecting one's neighbors isn't a thing.

Even for those of us fortunate enough to be able to shoot firearms at our home, walking outside with an airgun is a liberating experience.

It's only that expensive if you let it be. I'm about $700 all in with my rifle, scope, and pump. Any pigeon inside of 40 yards is toast, and any inside of 70 yards aren't safe. Last year I bought a Benjamin Marauder pistol with the stock attachment. It's purpose was to be a lower powered (~13 ft-lb), more maneuverable gun for shooting birds out of rafters or from inside the silos. I got about $400 into that one.

I had mostly double rifles when I made my trips to Africa a decade ago. Lay out $165 for a five round pack of 500 NE 3" some time. That's 2008 prices.
This site is great for what ever type of shooting people might enjoy.
Thank you all here for the advice shared.

Wanted to post in thread “what did you shoot today.”
Or maybe “ let’s see those kills.” Well anyway shot this one sometime ago and he stayed where he got hit. I’m surprised all the millet is still there. Must be too spooky for other birds. Oh well rebuilt feeder and put out some burd seed for starlings and sparrows. Shot with FX Dreamline. 24FA8C52-29AD-4F10-A316-0B50C1619878.jpeg

Look out Alice!! I am down the rabbit hole myself. Or will be about noon tomorrow. I went back to the air rifle shop and shot the Panthera again. We kinda worked things out, and he is willing to make me a deal on a 90-day program. So, my wife got back from visiting her folks and I laid out the deal. The lovely lady tells me; just take the money out of the bank in the morning and go get it. You can pay it back. The best thing about being co-dependant is being married to an enabler.

Thank you all for sharing the rapid curve on PCP air rifles.
