Powder, primer, and ammo price gouging!

Lucklily I had a a very nice member here on AS help me out on powder for next year at a reasonable price! Thank you, good people on here! BUT as for these big distributors that are charging an arm and a leg for supplys. I, for one, will not forget. When supplys are more readily available, I will not be buying anything for these distributors ever again. I know all about supply/demand and price, but I also know you do not take advantage of your customers in a time of need! I was looking recently. In my area, when there was a short gas shortage just a few years ago, there were some gas stations price gouging. People found out and quit patronizing them. They are all now out of business. As far a people helping out others and big distributors not gouging, thank you! You will have all my future business. Rant over.

After the sandy hook shooting, prices went wild and I was ashamed of SOME of the suppliers who took advantage of the situation. I refused to buy from them then and still do. Recently one of those suppliers, who will not be named, had RL-15 in stock with a minimum purchase of 10 pounds. I would have bought but at 55 dollars a pound including shipping and hazmat, I will do without!!!!!!!!

is that the same dealer that charges 3 times as much for shipping and hazmat that other dealers charge ?

I would wager a lot of people, especially those that only deal in components, would go out of business without increasing price. Powder Valley has been my go-to for the last few years and sent out messages they would not "gouge" but even their prices are creeping up and they rarely have anything to sell us. I'd imagine its hard to keep the doors open without inventory. Demand is there to sell $100/1000 primers.

PV, Graf and Son’s, or one of the other GOOD outfits will have RL-15 soon, I can wait. I don’t mind helping folks send the kids to collage, just don’t want to pay for a full semester at a time!!!!!

I suspect PV may be selling everything they get to local walk-in customers. Based on what I'm seeing elsewhere they must be receiving product (mustn't they?) but it's not showing up on their website. Yes, I too have significant regard for them, BTW.

PV has had a bunch of powders in the last 10 months.... it goes really darn fast.

The thread above has been extremely helpful to many of us.

Sounds like Bruno's to me. It seemed some of their other powder prices were more "reasonable" compared to their RL15 price.

Warning! Another long rant! Lol! I am not naming companies, but a big company recently had a powder I use for $47 a pound. That is about $9 a pound more per pound than other reputable places when they have it. On top of that extra $9 mark up, they had a 4 pound max per customer. Haz Mat charge is $35 whether you buy one pound or a full a case. So if you buy their max of 4 pounds, that is an average of $55.75 a pound before regular shipping and handling charges and taxes. I did not buy any because I refuse to be gouged, but I figure that powder would be well over $60 a pound by the time it gets to me. That is from a big distributor! Not some Mom and Pop shop on Gun Broker. I have been reloading all my ammo since I was 13 years old in 1979. I have bought 10’s of thousands of dollars of components over the years I am sure. So, I have seen price increases and several shortages over the years. I have a 4 year degree in business and economics. So, I kind of understand supply/demand vrs. price. I also managed a gun shop and range for 10 years after I graduated college when Bill Clinton was in office scaring gun owners. At our gun shop we had one of biggest supplies, by far, of reloading components and ammo in the area. There was very little mark up especially on reloading supplies. We kept the big reloading inventory to draw customers from miles away. Sometimes we actually lost money on supplies for a while if our supplier went up unexpectingly. I found out that sometimes you have to take it on the chin in the short term to keep your customers in the long run. I say all this because I have closely watched and studied this market from both sides of the isle for over 40 years. In the past the market gets tight at times for different reasons, then eventually returns to normal. I am sure the big distributors know this. I call it like I see it. And I see price gouging right now, and I for one DO NOT APPRECIATE distributors trying to take advantage of their customers in tough times! I have bought A LOT from these distributors I am talking about in the past. I am now taking note of these gougers. I will buy my products elsewhere from now on, even if I have to wait longer.
