Powder price increase

Everything is double or triple what it was three years ago...this is what people wanted and boy did they get all they can eat.. nothing is going down anytime soon even after the 2024 election and if things go against us again expect things to double in price again.... Expect gas and stuff to go down before the election but you can bet if Biden gets reelected the green deal will get even worse.... With well right now Americans funding two wars and on the brink of three maybe even WW3 things can't get better anytime soon.... Even Sweden joined NATO and is desperately preparing for war at this time.... But hey at least there's no mean tweets I guess.. If they treat Americans as their doing now , just imagine what they will treat us like without the 2A....

After reading these posts, I just pour myself a double bourbon - no ice, then turned on the CD player and I am going to listen to the Ecstasy of Gold from the movie The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Cheers my fellow brothers in the shooting sports fraternity. ;)

Guessing they will keep making it at the pace they are now.
If it weeds out a few here and there, then better selection for me
down the road.
We all knew this sport ( hobby ) wasn't cheap.

I found 3 lbs of Reloder 22 yesterday by pure chance. Someone make a snarky remark that I paid $83 per bottled with hazmat, shipping and tax. I stated then that Powder Valley was only a few dollars less... but they didn't even have in stock. Guess it will be more than what I paid when it does show up.

Going to grab a few jugs of Varget at a local shop in the morning... $54 per bottle. For those like me, and 4 lbs will probably last your lifetime just for hunting, get it now!

Snarky remarks?….. I’m glad you got some if you needed it. I don’t I have quite a bit of it but if I didn’t I would pay to acquire it.

I suppose Hodgdon and Alliant are separate from them too?

The only canister powder grades on sale in the US that Vista Outdoor controls is Alliant whose extruded rifle powders are made in Europe and imported into the US. Ball type Alliant powders such as the Power Pro types are made in the US by General Dynamics St. Marks Powder Co. in Florida.

Vista is asking silly money for Alliant powders because it can't get enough from the manufacturers to meet demand at competitive prices. This is because its suppliers - Eurenco Bofors in Sweden and Nitrochemie Wimmis a.g. in Switzerland - have pretty well stopped supplying the handloading canister market, nearly all of their production going into military ammo right now. (This also applies to Norma grades which likewise come from Bofors in Sweden.) Despite being European companies, we in the UK and Europe aren't getting any either - and Nitrochemie normally provides us with a very much larger range than the few grades that are rebranded as Alliant. It has nothing to do with the future Czech owners.

Vista companies currently dominate US primer manufacturing business though.

Thanks Laurie.

This could be the powder industry's Defiance Machine moment. Jack the prices up and you may see the demand drastically change.

The price won't stay high if it's sitting on the shelf.
Yep. I’m not budging, but I have enough that I’m not going to be desperate very soon. It doesn’t stay high if it sits but I think folks will need to be forced into a situation where they have to make hard decisions about their priorities before it will fall.
