Portable Shooting Bench/Table

So like many here I ordered a set of the bench leg brackets from Lonnie
Excellent product Fast ship All Great
So I call local cabinet shop to get a piece of plywood--I go over to get it and he takes a look at Lonnies drawing design for the bench top and says I will cut that out if you want me to--Really??? I was headed home to attack it with a skill saw--he laid it out on a CAD screen and in less than two minutes had it done! So...maybe call your local guy before you buy Skill saw blades

The 3 leg works fine for me--rear leg is plenty out of the way--in the field and dirt it plants well and is steady as can be--These are a little heavy with double 3/4 in--I have one with a single layer and it seems to work just fine once planted --and it Way easier to toss around

I use scrap pipe--the stores will cut and thread free when you buy but a 10- ft piece was over $50 yesterday at Lowes--no way I will pay that but if you have too you still wind up with a great bench for reasonable loot pays to add a handle on it --they are a PIA without one
I also bought a kit and it came out perfectly. I bought a 3/4 4X8 sheet of marine plywood and doubled it. Then I put 3 coats of spar varnish on the whole thing. Works perfectly. A little heavy but stable and still movable.

I used a couple of pieces of 3/4" plywood and then screwed a 1x3 on the bottom for the Black & Decker portable bench to clamp to the top. Not heavy duty like a concrete bench, but not super light either. I like that it comes apart in 2 pieces and lays pretty flat in my truck bed and for storage.

20-25 years ago when I was using a portable bench for PDn I sandwiched a piece of pink construction foam between two pieces of 1/4" plywood to save weight.

I abandoned the portable bench for this setup on the box of my 6x6...total mobility. This the 3rd rendition with more to come.

I plan to add a platform on the front as well to be able to shoot seated. PXL_20250906_211354399.jpg

Having a real hard time finding anything of quality online. Does anyone make a quality portable shooting setup for varmint hunting? I have my feelers out with ads and word of mouth for a BR

Mike, there is a Caldwell Stable Table on Craigslist, Spokane WA. It looks like the small top, but that is an easy change. It may need a modifications, but the pictures look good. Check it out, good luck.

George, Mike found an original BRP in like new condition a couple of months ago, so he has no need for the much lesser Stable Table.

Note that the Caldwell ST is no where near the level of the BRP (original or the Caldwell version), as Caldwell offered it as what I call their 'el cheapo' version. Most who purchase one heavily modify it to bring it up to field worthyness. In their questionable wisdom, Caldwell discontinued the BRP; it was entirely produced offshore in China, as is their ST. I for one try to avoid ChiCom products, especially in our specific area of interest.

Congratulations to both Rick and Mike on having & finding the original BRP version. For those of us who are still looking/seeking/wanting to find one, please keep your eyes open and if one happens to come cross your path, I would forever be in your debt should you pass it my way. Who knows, perhaps a "finder's fee" would also be forthcoming...:)
