Pocket Pistol

Daddymac, I have a G42 that I tricked out a bit, both mags have extensions for a better grip, a Vickers slide stop extension, a larger slide racker and a Streamlight flashlight/ laser..I wear it in my Uncle Mikes IWB holster..it's still very slim...I did the same too my G43..these aren't pocket pistols..but there easier too get at. ;)

"S&W .38 Airweight is nice. Would be perfect if no hammer."

In the 50's "bobbing" the hammer was a popular modification for carry revolvers that didn't compromise safety or functioning.

On the other hand, a few folks actually cut away the front of the trigger guard to allow easy access to the trigger, not recommended even if Charles Lindbergh had a revolver modified this way.

In the old days, my Father used to buy a new Ford every two years. His two year old Ford went to my Mother. Her four year old car was the trade-in.

Fast forward to last week...

My new 365 SAS arrived. Mamma got my LCP. She had been training on it for a couple months, and is comfortable shooting it. I am a larger person, and the SAS does not print in my baggy jeans.

Ditto on that!
Who’s leather is that?
Took me a few years but I decided my GP 100 was to big to be handy, lol.
I will say I am not an auto guy. 1911’s hate me for some reason. I had the chance to shoot the 238Legion and owned it shortly. To my understanding Colt let them have use of the Mustang to an extent.
At 15 yards I was pleasantly surprised with it on a plate rack.
There was a Bersa 380 on the table that day at the range, no comparison to the SIG.

I like the Bersa. Out of a Browning 1911-380, Sig P238, Colt Mustang and a Bersa Thunder .380, the Bersa is my favorite. That fixed barrel shoots very well and at the price point I don't care if it ends up in the dirt.

P365, but it's a 9, and fits in the pocket nicely with any type of pocket holster. Disappears in my CCW Breakaway jeans/cargos/shorts. My wife has a P238, small, lower capacity, but 99GR HST's in it. Easy for her to operate with deteriorating hand strength and shoots well.

380 with Buffalo Bore's bullets is a nice upgrade, consider an upgraded spring weight.

Remember one thing, if you feel the need to carry a pistol for the protection of yourself and loved ones, at least one reload is prudent as bad guys often run in groups.

I almost forgot I also have a 1938 Colt pocket model 25 auto, it used to be in my back pocket all the time no one ever knew it was there.
Also have a Colt Agent 38spl. among a few more larger Colts, some are strategically located around the house, no children under 38.

This one is my favorite, I carry it as a BUG most of the times. It stays in my pocket even when working in the garage

Not my actual revolver, lifted this picture from the web

Forum Boss: Very nice revolver. But the advantage of the Model 638 over this is that the 638's hammer is shielded. A good thing for pocket carry. S&W also makes hammerless DA-only revolvers. But I like the 638 as you have the Single-action option.

Mine is DA only, the hammer had been milled off

I've had about ten of the popular small pistols down to the pocket sized ones.
Kahr in 9mm and 40 - loved everything about them besides the trigger. It's just suuuuuper long.
In that same size category, also had an XDS and a few others that were forgettable.

Then I decided that size is a compromise, and I'd rather carry a full size and get those benefits or a pocket pistol for ultimate no excuses 100% of the time carry. Once I got past the mental block of "oh no I don't have enough bullets!!" In a revolver, it opened up a lot of good options. I moved to a Sig P238. Again, loved it. Was everything I wanted, capacity, night sights, good trigger, relatively accurate for it's designed range, could easily carry it in my pocket in a Desantis holster. It may have just been this gun, but I ran into repeated stove piping when trying to chamber a round. It was sent back to Sig and feedramp polished, etc etc. Eventually it started doing it mid mag. At that point, confidence was gone and it was sold.

Finally, I've landed in the SW airweight line. First a 642, and now a 340pd (pic attached). Similar but 340 shoots 357 and is a 11oz vs 15oz. 357 is a handful, but you can still shoot 38p or load a 357 that's in between to the two. The light weight is the selling point for me though. In summer, I'm in basketball shorts a lot, and everything besides an airweight pulls them down or prints really bad. These do not, and I dont see how anything else will replace them.

J frame smiths are a darn hard gun to master under defense training situations. Try drawing the gun from holster and firing double action at a silhouette target 15' distance, 5 times. I had my Model 60 in 38 Special honed by the Smith Custom shop years ago and it was acceptable after that.

LAPD instructor told me that the J frame 38 was very, very difficult to train officers to shoot with any proficiency.

I used "pocket pistol" as a reference to smaller framed guns. I am new to pocket carry being an IWB guy. I will experiment with pocket carry but I favor IWB. I have a K framed SW 38spl that my lady likes to shoot but likes the idea of an auto loader for protection. My G33 beats her up and she will not touch the 10mm yet. so 380 is my choice to keep her shooting with me and get her CCW. I am schooling myself to reload for the 380 as i reload for all my guns its my therapy. Thank you all for your responses it helps will help with my decision. PS: I love my K framed SW 38spl. I just dont want to give it up.....LOL
