Peterson Brass 30BR

It was a rhetorical question. 30br brass pretty much lasts indefinitely
Since the UBR matches started there is a lot more precision required with the 30 BR. Hence brass doesn't have longevity to provide the preciseness required in UBR. My minimum group requirement for UBR is .100" if it gets any bigger, new brass seems to be the answer. Another issue is the attrition rate of the newer 6BR Norma brass seems to be much higher. My load is at max so I'm pounding that brass pretty hard. It would sure be nice not having to do all the brass prep.

How many firings are you getting before losing accuracy?

How many cases do 30br shooters go thru? Ppc shooters use more brass than any other discipline out there by a long shot. Lapua sure does keep this fact quiet while other brass makers scramble for the limited buys. Makes no sense
You hit it right on the head Dusty. Doesn't make sense for anyone to make 30BR cases. Just not enough people shooting 30BR's to make it worthwhile from a business standpoint which it seems some shooters out there don't understand this.

I have multitudes of 30BR brass that I don’t have a clue how many times they have been fired. Primer pockets are still ok, the cases go in easy and come out easy, and shoot just like new ones.

I think the best guess as to when a 30BR case is ready for retirement is when the neck finally falls off.

Good to know Jackie. Thanks.

I’m starting to get clickers with my 30BR brass. Maybe 10 firings. How do I stop that, or is it time for new brass. Not Peterson brand FYI. Lapua of course.

I'm at twenty and frankly I'm not alone. That doesn't count the first two which are fireform. So 22 times. However after two fireforms I'm losing a lot more cases than I used to. Detached necks seem to be happening more often now. I'm moving to the 30 Major just because of moving brass from .264" instead of 6mm.

Jackie are you shooting UBR or the old For Score targets? Big difference.

Rodney I'm getting clickers at 10 firings and recently I did something that I never thought would help that, I bumped the brass another .001". Wow not only did it eliminate the clickers but it cut the groups in half from .180" to .090" agg.!! I didn't believe so I shot it again and got three groups in a .070" agg. I like what I'm seeing but I don't trust it. My attrition rate on brass seems to getting worst but then I guess that's the price of what I expect of my scores lately. It's a lot of fun seeing those big bullets go into one hole and frankly it's rivaling my 6PPC in a group match!

Thanks for the advice, worth a try at least. I’ll let you know if it works.

AFTER READING THESE POSTS ABOUT DIFFICULTIES EXPANDING PETERSON 6BR BRASS TO 30BR, I ALSO WAS TRYING TO EXPAND 100 PCS OF PETERSON 6BR BRASS TO 30BR OVER THIS WEEKEND & CRUSHED 12 OF THE 100 CASES! A LITTLE DISSAPPOINTED, BUT, OK, I WAS WANTING TO SEE HOW IT WORKED VERSUS THE LAPUA BRASS I HAVE BEEN USING FOR SEVERAL YEARS, SO, I CALLED & TALKED TO ZACK AT PETERSON THIS MORNING & HE IS SENDING ME NOT ONLY SOME 6BR BRASS TO REPLACE THE RUINED PIECES, BUT, ALSO A SAMPLE OF THEIR 7BR BRASS TO TRY AS WELL! TO ZACK & ALL THE FOLKS AT PETERSON CARTRIDGE, A BIG THANK YOU & A JOB WELL DONE! I CONSIDER THIS TO BE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! THANKS AGAIN, GARY W

Wow, that's what I call customer service!! I expand my Lapua 6BR Norma brass in increments. Going first to .257", then .264", next to .284", and finally to .308". This is a lot of work but it renders some very straight brass. I'm hoping Peterson will soon have 30 BR brass available. My Lapua cases have a prominent donut that forms on the outside of the case neck which needs to be turned off so the cases chamber properly. It's not rare to discard 10 out of 100 cases that don't meet my specs.

I ALSO ASKED ABOUT THEM MAKING 30BR BRASS WHILE I HAD ZACK ON THE PHONE, HE SAID WITH SUPPLIES HARD TO GET RIGHT NOW, THEY WONT BE TRYING TO DEVELOPE THE 30BR CASES AT THIS TIME, BUT, HE ALSO STATED THAT USING THE 7BR BRASS TO START WITH SEEMS TO WORK BETTER FOR FORMING 30BR, THAT IS WHY HE IS SENDING ME SOME TO TRY OUT! WILL POST BACK HERE WHEN I GET A CHANCE TO TRY THEM

I have used their 7BR brass and it was pure pleasure to neck them up to 30BR. Turning the necks was a seamless process. I am using 33.6 Grains of H4198 with Bib's 118's, Federal match primers, necks turned to .010 and getting 2950 FPS @ 4300 feet altitude. This brass is working as well as the Lapua just allot easier to make. Have 5 firings so far and annealing after each firing.

Yes. I have purchased your brass for rifles I own and it’s first class. Make it a double YES as I have two 30BR’s

I’ve tried going in several steps to get from 6mm to 30 cal and I’ve also done it in one step. One step is much simpler. Sure the necks are more crooked in the single step method than in multiple steps, but in the end all the cases still need at least one firing before they are ready for competition.

I’ll never use multiple steps again when expanding. Lapua brass holds up well to the task.

I shoot NBRSA Varmint for Score. Quite a bit of it.

I try to keep the Rifle shooting at a .200 or better agg level.

If I was shooting UBR, I would probably shoot a 6PPC, since I am now making my own 68 grn 6mm bullets.

I talked to as many Score Shooters in the Gulf Coast Region as possible during the Winter, and nobody was interested in shooting the UBR Format.
