Peterson Brass 30BR

Some years back I started making my 30BR brass by blowing out fully loaded Lapua 6BR case into a 30BR.

As a consequence of this method, much of the original 1.560 length is retained. So I had my reamer ground with a chamber length of 1.550, and a trim to length at 1.540.

I doubt what Peterson would make would accommodate this, so I would just stay with Lapua.

You bet - with about 0.015" neck-wall thickness, and 1.560", or so, long, so the cases may be trimmed and turned to, within reason, whatever the reamer dictates.:DRG

Several good points have been made and need to be kept in mind by Peterson Cartridge Company if they want their 30BR to be a hit,

First, there is no SAAMI or C.I.P. specification for the 30BR; consequently they can satisfy everyone’s desires by making the case 1.560 long with a neck wall thickness of 0.015; as stated above.

Unfortunately, if they take the easy route and simply clone it from their 7mm BR with a C.I.P. maximum length of 1.520+ and a neck thickness of 0.012; half of those using the 30BR presently are immediately alienated because, like Jackie Schmidt, they have a 1.550 chamber or longer.

How many cases do 30br shooters go thru? Ppc shooters use more brass than any other discipline out there by a long shot. Lapua sure does keep this fact quiet while other brass makers scramble for the limited buys. Makes no sense
Don't really know how long Lapua 30BR brass would survive in the Bench Rest world but mine is doing very well. I don't abuse it with real hot loads however I do load at what I believe is close to or max loads. My rifle is chambered with a .330 (tight) neck chamber so my brass is turned to @ .098 to give me @ .327 - .3275 loaded neck diameter. I do F/L size my brass bumping the shoulders @ .001 - .0015 with a Wilson die. So far, I do not anneal any brass and my necks seem to be maintaining good tension and I have some that I have loaded six times. I would try Peterson brass if the need arises to get more but for now I think I'm good to go.

It was a rhetorical question. 30br brass pretty much lasts indefinitely
