"Out Dated" .308 Win

But, but... that's what all the ex-spurts said!!! I saw a YT video where some keyboard commando was reviewing the M1A. He said that of course he selected the 6.5 Creedmoor variant, since .308 is obsolete and all... That was as far as I got, so I couldn't tell you what his ultimate conclusion was.
I’m sure you missed where he said he was taking it out for KO2M where he was gonna show those guys a thing or two....:D

I wouldn’t take that wager with you and any of the rifles you shoot, Bill.... I know better

Thanks for the confidence Bro. I just love shooting a cool rifle and hand loading for it. I've learned alot from some cool guys here at 6mmBR and fortunate enough to have a cool "Smith" as well. (ODCR -WSMNUT)

I’m not sure which I find more irritating, the ignorant neophytes who think the Creedmoor rounds defy physics and work miracles, or the haters inspired by them who deny that creedmoors have any merit at all.

It’s pretty tough to argue any caliber is “obsolete” when the examples of longevity abound. The 9mm dates go 1903 and is still the world’s most common handgun caliber.

I have two 6.5 cm, one 6 cm, and a 308. I have very good loads for all and they all soot good. I like my 308 just has more recoil with my 175gr loads. The creedmoors are less so slightly more fun to shoot. Im a firm believer in you better know what your talking about before you open your mouth. Ive been in this sport for 9 years and still learning. I have met guys starting that sound ignorant like him at the ranges and at gun stores looking to buy. Cant help but laugh. Even all my 223 are just as good.

gosh, I just feel like an old fogey having an outdated 6.5 x 55 Swede ...

The primary virtue of the 6.5 creedmoor is that is delivers the the performance of the Swede but with a format that works in a short action and with box magazines.

If the creedmoor is excellent (and it is), it’s only because the Swede was excellent over a half century before.

Whatever. I have a .308 and a 6 Creedmoor. I love to shoot them both. However at 1000 yards the 6 Creedmoor out performs my .308. Maybe some day, if I feel ambitious, I will switch the .308 from 175 TMK to a 155 scenar's and see if it makes a difference at 1000 yards. In the meantime I just rotate through the 22-250, ,308 and 6 Creedmoor. They all have a turn and I enjoy them all equally.

More like, over a century before.

My 308 even shoots FGMM pretty good. Speaking of which, I gave may neighbor all my Sierra 168s for his police dept. rifle training so I've got to order some more.

I get it quite frequently shooting cast in varmint rigs. Just have to refine the 1000 mile stare, then get on with the bugholes.

I'm not ready to give up the 6mmR for a Creed either. Running 40g of IMR4350 behind a Saeco 85.

What ever became of the old .270? Is it still even made?

The only guy who ever cared about it died 42 years ago.

Nothing screams boring like mediocre performance from a 130 grain flat based projectile in a less than ideal twist rate. But hey, ole grand pappy use to put the cross hairs on a deers back at 500 yards and drop em errrrytime!!

I shot 1,000's of rounds of 308 across-the-coarse and long -range (out to 1,000 yds) in a M70 Match
Rifle and was always very pleased with it's performance (often not so pleased with mine ;)), very accurate and consistent. I recently had to have that rifle rebarreled and decided to put a Bartlien 1:8 in 6.5 Creed on it (I already have a 243 Win, long-range gun). I haven't shot it a lot yet, but I can see little difference, with the exception of recoil. Their is a significant difference in recoil between a 140 and 185/200 gr bullets - much easier on this 66 year old body.

But anyone who counts the 308 out, is in for a rude awakening, even in this new 6mm world.

I was looking to buy a new rifle.. Friend bought a .308 for pigs... So I did a bunch of research and all this hype about the 6.5 Creedmoor. Well then the 6 Creedmoor popped out.. Then I thought, it's a 6 mm projectile!! Isn't a .243 the same thing but a little slower? Yes... So I saved myself some $$$$ and realized the .243 I have is a great gun.. Just need some different ammo..
