opinon for a 2nd 6mm for coyotes

If you plan on feeding from the magazine (2.80-2.85 coal) in a S/A with 105-115 class bullets you're going to be seating the bullets well below the NK/SH. junction eating up your powder space. I'd look at the 95-100 gr weights and keep more powder space and the COAL better for the magazine. At 500-600 yds. you might be better off, considering you're using a 24" bbl.

Anybody messed around with a .22x47 Lapua Improved or .22 Long Dasher?? Id think youd be able to get right up near .22-243 performance with better brass and possibly even a might bit better accuracy...??

Or maybe even try running .22-308 Lapua Palma small primer... would be some work on the reloading bench but a real beast on the drag strip!!

My 'smith used my .22-243AI reamer run short to make a .22x47L Improved. He was getting excellent speed, but pressures had to be thru the roof to accomplish it.

Just because the small primer pocket brass can handle high pressure, doesn't make it a good idea to run it that way, IMHO...

A .22-308 using Palma brass is called the .22Cheetah. There are two versions, Mk 1 & 2, difference being the shoulder angle. From what I've read, the small primer pocket doesn't help in reliably igniting such a large amount of powder...

What is it about 6.5x47L brass that would make using it "better" than Lapua .243Win brass as a parent case for a .22-243Win/Middie/AI?

I have shot 130-140 coyotes in the last 8-10 years here in North Carolina and have used everything from .221 Fireball to a 6.5 Creedmoor. Fast twist 22-250 using the 75 gr amax was a real performer. Shot a coyotes over baits at 580 and 629 yards in total darkness using a D-760 6x Night vision scope. Kills very efficiently and with authority. Light bullet 22-250/22-250 AI's killed ok but not nearly as well as heavyweight amax. But I feel that the best coyote gun by far that I have found is a 6 MM AR Turbo 40. Robert Whitley of AR-X Enterprises builds custom AR-15 uppers using Hart/Bartlein/Krieger barrels with 1:8 twist barrels and they really perform. I have shot 1 1/2" (5 shot) groups at 500 yards with a 25x Leupold and 3 1/4" (3shot) groups at 700 yards in total darkness (no lights what so ever) with a 6x night scope. Low recoil, match grade accuracy, fast second shots, and plenty of energy using the 105 gr amax. Perfect coyote gun in my opinion. Just gotta know your ranges and holdover points. Not to much gun and with a reasonably well placed shot they go down like they were hit with the hammer of Thor.

Anything will shoot good in the wind if you shoot a lot and come to know the cartridge drift characteristics and learn where to hold. Best wind drift training for any cartridge is shooting ground squirrels or prairie dogs on the plains. Usually windy and you get a TON of rounds down range on very small targets.

For Varmint hunting, I like the idea of an AR platform with a 6mm AR or 6mm AR Turbo 40 (AR15 with a 7.62x39 BCG). Fast rounds for their size, and multiple follow up shots can be made in a very short period of time due to the semi auto action, high magazine capacity, and very low recoil. I recently purchased a 20" x 9.36" SS X-Caliber AR barrel chambered in 20 TAC with a Harrels muzzle break installed. Total cost was under $200. If I can develop an accurate load, this will be the future of my varmint hunting adventures. AR barrels are cheap and can be changed out easily at home. A lot more cost effective to change out an AR barrel than buying a new rifle if you want to try a different chambering. Just some thoughts...

++ On the 6 AR Turbo 40. Both of mine with 75 & 87 v-max's and the Hornady 87 BTHP have been lasers of death. At times a bit tough on the pelts but unless one is running FMJ's that's the risk. I also have a lot of praise for my 6 Hagar. Not quite as easy to tune but it runs a little faster and just as fun and lethal! I shoot all of them suppressed and we just got 6" of snow cover so yotes here I come. Happy Holidays, Eric in DL
