One shot case lube

I’m a dedicated imperial man for anything precision but for many other processes I’ve used one shot probably 30 years and stuck one case when I first started and didn’t read the instructions. My only complaint with it has ever been especially back in the 90’s it’s not cheap and sometimes it would just stop working. I haven’t noticed that so much in recent years

Biggest warning I give people is that is DOES NOT PLAY WELL with other lubes. If you have a die that's used other lubes they need to be 100% cleaned (brake cleaner and such) and then seasoned with One Shot. I use a bore mop with a patch on it to get up in there. Let the brass sit and off gas as well. I know people have issues with it, I've seen dies get stuck, I understand the vitriol for it, and I know that's it's one of the major banes of existence for several die manufacturers but there are plenty of people who get great results with it as well. I would still be using it if I wasn't trying to cut back on things in a spray can.

It was because of these videos that I started using Hornady One Shot last December. Previously I had used Lee lube in the tube with good results.

For me it was crazy smooth on bulk stuff. I followed the instructions and cleaned my die then sprayed the die with One Shot. Lower quantity loading a get Imperial. If I needed more wax I'd try Belly Wax to support the member here. My problem with One Shot is the cost for the small quantity.

It has gotten a bad rap on the web forums, but in my opinion that is not deserved.

No matter what is said in favor, a significant number of folks will jump on with negatives.

So, I am not dismissing the folks who go negative on it, but, those comments are taken with a grain of salt since some folks are not metal workers or used to working in industrial settings.

Is this particular method that much riskier than any other? Not really, unless you are blind to the risks.

When used as intended, there have been too many trouble-free runs with this to say it doesn't work as well as any other method... when properly done.

To be fair, I have un-stuck many dies for folks so the risks are worth mentioning.

I have never had a problem with it and treat it like another tool in the tool box. In some places, this stuff makes the most sense, in others it is something else. YMMV
Same could be said for the Lee lube which a heavy metal forming lube made by Castrol. Most people use far too much of it. I place 100 cases in a plastic bowl with a pea sized dollop of lee lube and shake for 30 seconds. Open the bowl and let dry for 30 seconds or more and size. This method puts on the perfect amount of lube and it wipes off easily. Ive used most every lube out there but keep coming back to the lee, never an issue, never a shoulder dent. Works well inside the neck also, and doesnt harm powder or primer.

RCBS lube ( now called (2))
And their pad
No problem since I started in the 60’s
No reason to try anything else.

Used Imperial for 20 years, works great.
I've used one shot and if you follow the directions, it works well too. Like John said, getting away from aerosol in the reloading room.
I'm currently using a Lanolin mixture in a pump spray and getting great results. Easy to clean off with hot water and Dawn. I still use the One Shot in my Potato Canon. You won't find anything better!!!!

Good to hear / I had cases stuck in Die a few times ?
Been Wet Tumbling now, have a couple cans give it a go.
Been using Case Butter, Frankfort, No Problems with it ????

Two products I can't use because they severely affect my lungs- One Shot and Kroil. Also you must leave One Shot dry for a few minutes- which I think many don't and where the stuck die problem arises from.

When I first started using Lee lube, I read about that method (zip lock bags) and tried it, shaking the bag close to a minute. On sizing most were OK but I did get stuck cases on occasion. I then resorted to lubing the cases between my fingers and much later wearing nitrile gloves.

I just use One-Shot on pistol brass with carbide dies, using Zip-Lock bag method.
For rifle brass, its a lube mix of 1oz. lanolin to 10oz alcohol applide via zip lock bag for 223 and 308. Lube pad for anything else.

If you don't let One-Shot dry before sizing, you will almost certainly stick a case. If you apply it well and let it dry (only takes a couple of minutes at most- the solvent is n-Hexane and a little acetone and evaporates VERY quickly), you will not stick cases. All the lubes, if applied properly, work well, in my experience. One-Shot happens to fit into to my case prep work flow well so that is what I use.

Had good success with One Shot with consistent .223 match brass for years. Had 2 or 3 stuck cases with larger caliber brass and "mixed nuts". It was probably me not waiting long enough or letting it sit too long. I'm running now on cans of Royal spray which is a lot slicker but boy it smells! I use those Sinclair poly loading blocks which clean up with a shot of brake cleaner.
There's a tin of Imperial wax on the shelf whenever I'm in doubt about sprays.
