On beam scales part two

Ok, I have an older non dampened very nice, redding type, two poise scale. very nice. I want to add a paperclip in the area where the beam 'bounces' on its way to being in balance. Maybe i just figured it out...put a small piece of foam or leather bottom and top of rectangular opening???

You need a new pan and hanger assembly. It is all goofed up. How did it get so bent up?

Danny

I just looked at it. It looks like a diff hanger but anything will work as long as it is straight in line with, and swings in line with the beam. ( which it probably is not either). Also the diameter of the holder wire should match the bail diameter. The bigger problem is the pan is too large and is lopsiding the holder, which will relay uneven pressure on the knives/agates each time it it re-placed on the holder. I dont even use pans for powder but a 35mm film plastic case trimmed down. No splash back and can place it right in the center of the pan holder.

As long as the pan swings freely, being off kilter shouldn’t make any difference.

if it is off kilter and swinging you can see it rock the beam with a loupe. Makes more sense to have the weigh centered in the pan from the gitgo

True’ we don’t want anything swinging wildly whether perfectly in line or not, we want it to dampen freely . I’ve had this before where the pan doesn’t sit perfectly and it really didn’t make a difference in the scales performance, I put a checkweight in the pan and it will settle on the correct weight. I suppose there’s always extremes or no absolutes per se’

Just sharing what I’ve experienced.

Come on guys, it just looks funny that way, but I just set it on the the wire that came with it for the photo.
The pan came with it also, it's just not centered..
It weigh perfect when everything is level no problem at all..

What is achievable with a beam scale. Note not just the low SD but also the avg. values across three separate strings.

E-targets average velocity and SD numbers should only be used as an indication, not relied upon as Chrono data. I love my Shot Marker but there are much better systems to use to get that data.

I purteed up my M5 today with ‘S&W red’ ceracote. There are only 2 things in nature the same color as ‘Ohaus brown’. One is mud and then the other…
I wasnt able to save the pointer scale but dont need it anyhow. Anywhere out of the black line is +\- one kernel of H4350.
