Off topic: Wheels for my new to me ride... 71 olds

I had these on my 66 nova ss when I was in high school. I think the Keystones are one of the nicest wheels going. They look good on most muscle cars of the day.
Yeah they are a different kind of sexy versus Cragers and other coke bottle style rims.

If you do switch and have the room to store them, you might consider keeping the wheels that came on your 442. It will add to the value of you car if you ever decide to sell it and the rest of the car is pretty much original/restored. I’ve seen them sell with the original wheels in the trunk.

All the Hurst/Olds 442 had a tricked out THM400 automatic and they could do 0-60 in 5.4 seconds so they were no slouch. If you rebuild your tranny, make sure to get the high performance sprags and 6 disk clutch pack for it. With those upgrades, the THM400 is virtually unbreakable.
Trans has been gone through, but it was an auction car that we don’t have any history on, so i dont know what was done to it or who did it

I have room to throw them in the shed, id probably be better off selling the factory wheels with the car and the aftermarket ones seperate

Yes. The Hurst Olds were autos That I remember. However 442 originally stood for 4 barrel 4 speed dual exhaust.

I never minded the Keystone classics back then, but preferred the Crager SS. I had a set of ET aluminum wheels that resembled Centerlines On my 73 Nova SS.

I like factory wheels on most everything, but many were changed and still look "period" correct.
My Chevelle:
Show us the 442.

Is that a vote for Torq-Thrusts?
I think a 442 would look great with a set of torque-thrusts. Cragars to my taste are a bit cliche. Draglites and ProStars are bit “racy” for a mostly stock steet car— I think they clash if you don’t have a blower or tunnel ram poking through the hood.

I really like the look of the welds you mentioned but like you said, they really dont fit a mostly stock car. Somthing also to be said for different. I found out you can get tourqe thrusts with black centers. That might give the car a look that says perfomance more than it does luxury car, and probably go good with gold paint amd black stripes.

Yes! Those are 72 turn signals and a 71 grill. I would guess the car to be a 72 with replaced grill. My first car was a 71.

I'm guessing 1971, but the turn signals look like 72's.

Good eyes Guys! The guy that built it liked the '71 grill and headlight trim better (and so do I).
I had a 71 El Camino back in the 70s and my wife had a 71 when we got married, so I left it that way.
It is a 72.
Here are the two 71s from back then:

Here is the 70 442 W30 I had. This pic is from roughly 74 when my uncle owned it. I got it 89 right out of school. Sadly it was way rusty when I got it. It had the Crager wheels.img20191117_01473957.jpgimg20191117_01491438.jpg
Tha'ts me standing next to it...way way back.
