NRA of no help !

Our club just had a grant denied by FNRA. We requested funds to have security cameras installed so we'd have video footage if there was ever an incident. Their reason for denying it was it "only benefited the club and its members, not the general shooting public." I'll also add that there are no public ranges in our area.
Each State's Committee selects what they fund within the established criteria. Committees are comprised of representatives from each FNRA event in your State; that is who you need to talk with.

Yes, one of the criteria is benefit to general public. Funds availability influences decisions also.

Our club is pretty familiar with the process. We have a few members that are involved with the local banquet each year and our clubs usually makes a donation to it. In previous years we've had no issues getting grants despite our club being private.

When I worked for the FNRA (I did about ten years) and was on the committee that recommended grants to the board, according to our guidelines, a private club not open to the public would be fighting an uphill battle to attain a grant, especially if it wasn't for funding directly related to shooting. The only time I ever heard of funding security cameras was for a private club who ran a local public range.

I would have had to have denied your grant request as well. If you want better luck in the future, you'll need to show how your club is benefiting the public and shooting sports in general. You'll need to host public events, have public-access days on your range, or do outreach events. Sometimes if you host or put on clinics for 4H clubs that can help.

Cameras on the other hand, will only benefit your club. If you buy your own cameras, then ask for a grant to put on clinics or host open range days, you'd be more likely to get resources.

I would be happy to help. There are several different style of target carriers and each one has its benefits and challenges. Perhaps we can discuss your needs and facility layout and we can come up with a solid solution for you.

Recommend that you visit (shoot) at the Oak Ridge Sportsman Association (ORSA) in Oak Ridge, TN, and try out their cantilever style target system. Been shooting there since 1984...and I've certainly been around the country since. What a pleasure to go to the pits...one can just about move the targets down/up with flick of an eyelash. Best system in the US outside of ETs. It'll cost you more than ETs though for "brick and mortar".

The cantilevers at Ben Avery, Phoenix, would be a second choice; but not the with ease and balance of ORSA.
