NRA classification

How does NRA classifications work for F class ? I'm a new shooter, How many matches/rounds must I fire before receiving a classification ?

It takes at least 120 rounds for an initial classification, and 120 to reclassify upward.

They take the running average of the most recent however many matches it takes to get to at least 120 shots (without breaking up a tournament--if you shot two 100 shot matches, then they take the percentage of possible points for all 200 shots)

So, if you shoot a 45 shot match, then a 60 shot match (105 shots, no classification card yet) then a 100 shot match, all three scores get added up, and your class determined from that. Once scores are used for a new card/class bump, they get discarded, so you start over with no scores. One other wrinkle is that it's the order in which they are *received*, not necessarily the order they are fired.

Also, the first time you shoot, you can get a temporary classification (write down your score, figure out what percentage of possible points that was, and look up where that falls in the classifications. That's your temporary class until you get an official one) So the next match, you can enter at the appropriate class.

Aren't the clasification percentages different for F-Class and sling shooters? I thought Master in F-Class began at 96.50%.

Yes, look under 19.15 at the end of F-Class_hpr-w22.pdf, above. The file for the entire rule book is too large to post. Here is the link... [br]

Table III
Individual F-Class

High Master . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 98.00 and above
Master . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 96.50 to 97.99
Expert . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 94.00 to 96.49
Sharpshooter . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 91.50 to 93.99
Marksman . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Below 91.50

The above is from the F-Class section 22, F-class rifle rules.
It does not appear that there are different percentages for mid-range vs long-range as there are for High Power (slingers) shooters.

Just looked up my classification online after 2 matches (60 round match and a 120 round 2-day match) and classified Expert. By my own math from my score cards I missed Masters by less than 1/2% (96.34%). I had 2 poor strings which could have helped me out.

I don't have my card yet, but looks like I'll need some good scores and another 180 rounds to bump up.
