How many matches before you get your classification?

Somewhat answering my own question but I have some new insight about the 120 shot classification (and perhaps reclassification). I have tried unsuccessfully to contact the NRA Competition Liaison's Office over the past week to get the definitive answer, but I just was classified for Long Range F-Class and the nature of my score history provided some information. So here goes,

My first shots for record at long range (>800 yds) in FTR happened in early May 2014. The first match was a 60 shot affair all at 1000 yds at Moffit, ND (Great people and fun, fun if you get the chance to go - and alot of wind...). Got my butt kicked pretty well and learned alot. Score 447/600 or 74.5%

Next match (same location) was on June 6, 2014, a Palma match. 800-900-1000 (45 shots for record). Scored a more respectable 408/450 (90.67%).

Still not at 120 shots.

The next day was an 80 shot match all at 1000 yds for the State Long Range Championship. Scored 748/800 (93.5%).

Now I have surpassed the magical 120 shots (now at 185) and helps me answer the question I posed. When classifying, when the 120 shot threshold is met (or exceeded) are the first 120 shots used, the last 120 shots used or all shots used? Using my scores, are shots 1-120, 1-185, 1-125 (60+45+1st string of 3rd match) or 61-185 (last 125 shots/as reported) used for my classification?

Well some quick math using my numbers:
Shots % Classification
1-120 82.8% Marksman
1-185 86.6% Marksman
1-125 83.4% Marksman
61-185 92.5% Sharpshooter

Since I see online that I am now classified a Sharpshooter, I guess they used the last 120 shots (or thereabouts based upon how the information is reported - I believe it is not individual shots, rather string sum). Drew

A very small staff at NRA Headquarters due to the National Matches at Camp Perry, they're there doing their job, it's like that every year in July & Aug.!

I found this interesting. My son just got his classification card in the mail from the NRA. He's not a member, I am. He only shot 3 mid range 600 yard matches this year. Last one in June and got his card today.

As I said earlier, you do not have to be an NRA member to get a classification, but you can't check it online without a membership.

I saw that. I was just surprised it came that quickly, without being a member!

I'm going to join him this year as he's really enjoying the competition aspect and now getting a classification.

For that, you thank your match director(s). They are the ones who send in the data in a timely fashion.

Yes, get him an NRA membership and he will be bursting with pride; an NRA card and a Classification card. When you get the membership you may want to contact the NRA to make sure the number is the same on his classification, and then use that number when he signs up at other matches.

You're a good dad.

Thanks, appreciate that. Yes, I'm sure match director did. He's a huge advocate of Jr's getting into the sport.

I'm not an NRA member and I check mine online.

From the NRA book....
NRA Membership Number is required for classification purposes in all NRA Sanctioned Tournaments. Should a competitor not be an NRA member, he will be assigned a special number that allows his scores to be entered into the computer.
