Not sure how to respond.

As far as the guys concerned about feedback....

"I agreed to sell something to somebody. I set the price AND the shipping. He sent me a check for that amount. So now I want to leave him negative feedback."

I just went through a transaction that I just ate $20 for shipping. I got a shipping quote from a UPS store and quoted that price on the sale. Went I went to shipping the item, all of a sudden it was an additional $20, but I'd already told the buyer the price. To his credit, he offered to make up the difference, but I declined. I figured a deal is a deal and I wasn't about to make someone else pay for my mistake.

I've mistakenly under estimated shipping costs on the items I've sold. Not a single buyer is aware of it because I ate the cost. My bad judgement is not the buyer's responsibility.

As hard-hearted as this sounds, the seller needs to eat the extra postage.

would you have received a refund if the shipping was $10 ?

I'd probably send the $5 and put this cheap skate behind me .

This reminds me of something I read way back about an author who was asked how he dealt with abusive letters.

Seems he ran off copies of a letter that said:

Dear sir or Madam,

You may well be right.

Signed

Id totally ignore it if the item gets there. If he ever said anything id say i thought i paid you what we agreed on? I get bit by shipping all the time and ive never once asked for more money- that is absurd. If he asks again send him a link to this thread then continue to ignore

I'd give him his five bucks. I spent more than five bucks of time reading this thread, but I was bored.

No one here knows what the legality of it is.

I would wait till I at least got what I paid for and then check the postage on it to see if he really paid what he claimed. If it is 5.00 more, then send it and try to hope for positive feedback, the money isn't worth the bad feedback.

Ive sold things and under estimated shipping so bad i lost money on the deal... never asked to be reimbursed.. it was my mistake...

  1. : one that enables another to achieve an end; especially : one who enables another to persist in negative behavior (as in underestimating shipping costs and then asking for the difference) by providing excuses or by helping that individual avoid the consequences of such behavior.

Here is the situation.

I saw an item on another bulletin board that I was interested in. The fellow had a price on the item. I emailed him found out the item was still available. Asked if he would pay for shipping. He indicates that he wants his price and that shipping is $15.00 extra.

OK, so I give him his price and add the $15 to boot.

Once the item is shipped, headed my way, he sends me an email telling me that item has been shipped and oh, by the way, shipping was actually $20. Would I send him a check for the additional $5.00.

I am conflicted here. The man got his asking price for the item and I paid him the amount he wanted for the shipping. Don't know that I feel obligated to kick-in the additional $5.00. That said, am not looking to cheat the guy but If I were in his shoes, I would just eat the $5.00 and call it even. I got my asking price.

Thoughts?

Here is another option. Take the item in the box to his shipper, if it was UPS or USPS and let them weigh it and tell you the shipping cost back to him. This way you know for a fact if he is truthful or greedy.

As stupid as this $5.00 argument is, I feel that if negative feedback were left by either party (in this specific situation) that the ever watchful and wonderful ADMINS should block / remove it and PM the offending party(ies) with a happy little note stating they are on double top-secret probation.

I like the $10 idea...that's funny and it would drive the point home.

FWIW...I wouldn't have asked for the additional $ either and I would probably just pay the $ to get him to shut up and go away. But I'd remember never to deal with that azz hat again.

If you paid $15 for shipping and found out it only cost him $10 to ship it would you ask for your $5 back?

I *did* have a guy on one deal try to charge by weight on a bunch of bullets that I was buying.

I sent him a simple email, asking if he would ship Priority Flat Rate instead.

He agreed, saying that he was unaware of that option, and thanked me for pointing it out.

That was all done PRIOR to sending payment though.
